It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Jos Theriault, who peacefully departed from this world on June 13, 2024, at the young age of 40. Jos was the cherished son of Marie-Thérèse Caron and Leonard Theriault, and a beloved brother to Nancy (Andrew) and Melana (Sangwoo). He found great joy in being an uncle to his nieces and nephews, Anderson, Alexis, Riley, Noah, and Abigail.
Jos was an artist in every sense, using various materials to manifest his vision into reality. His creativity was matched only by his complexity and brilliance. Those who knew him best spoke of his silent wisdom, which resonated deeply with all who encountered him. Described as a gentle giant, Jos had an innate ability to make others feel truly seen and understood. He embodied the essence of an artist, capturing moments of beauty and truth with his unique perspective on life.
In a poignant interview for his nephew's 2nd grade class presentation of his uncle Jos: the artist, Jos shared his love for doodles, climbing, food, riding his bike, and the simple joy of being outdoors on sunny days, surrounded by the scent of flowers.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date with close friends and family. Details will follow in due course. In honour of Jos' memory and his lifelong battle with type 1 diabetes, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Diabetes Canada. Your contributions play a vital role in funding critical research, education programs, support services, advocacy, and initiatives aligned with our vision of a world free of the effects of diabetes. Jos leaves behind a legacy of creativity, kindness, and a profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
