Jose was born in Arcozelo, a parish in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal. His parents were Manuel and Rosa Barbosa. He had eight brothers and sisters. As a teenager, Jose liked to venture out into nearby cities and villages with his motorcycle. He met his wife, Ana Paula, this way. He was only 15 years old when he first saw her and 18 when he began talking to and dating her.
He immigrated to Canada in March of 1986, with only one suitcase, hoping to make a better life for himself and his family. He immediately began looking for work and he found it in a construction company. For over 30 years now, he has worked as a welder with this company, Soncin Construction. He was even employee of the year in 2013.
On September 16, 1989 Jose decided to get married in Portugal to his sweetheart. His wife then came to Canada with him on January 7, 1990. Together, they raised two children, Amanda and Daniel. He loved them so very much and did all he could to make sure they were happy and had good lives. Jose made sure that his children and wife were never without anything and for that, they will always be grateful. He was an amazing husband and father!
Jose loved birds, chickens, garage sales, looking at antiques and gardening. He will always be remembered as a hardworking, generous, kind, curious and funny man. He was always willing to help others and he did a lot for many people. He was very personable and always made everyone he met laugh with his comments and jokes. He loved life and sure lived it to the fullest, although he passed away too young. But God called him to look after the birds and gardens in heaven.
We Love and Miss you so much!
