

very peacefully at home, as he wished, with his fellow Basilian Fathers on Saturday, February 15, 2014. Rolland, son of George Janisse and Louise Genest was born on March 7, 1921. He attended Assumption College, Windsor, first in High School, then as an Arts Student. Afterwards he studied dentistry for 2 years at the University of Toronto. He entered St. Basil’s Novitiate in 1941 and made his profession of vows August 15, 1942. Returning to Assumption College he completed his work for a B.A. degree in 1945. He was appointed to Catholic Central High School, Detroit for 2 years and then to St. Basil’s Seminary, Toronto . Following his ordination, June 29, 1949, Rolland was appointed to the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, Toronto and then to St. Basil’s Seminary, Toronto. In the years 1954-1958 he was chaplain of the Canadian Forces. He then took courses in Pastoral Counselling for a year. He was appointed pastor of Assumption Church, Windsor and then for 4 years as founding director of the new Office of Pastoral Counselling of the Diocese of London. At the same time Rolland worked with the Counselling and Learning Institutes in Windsor for the next 13years. He also became a counsellor in the Addiction and Research Foundation of Ontario where he worked for 13 years. Afterwards he became chaplain at Brescia College, London, ON. Rolland lived in retirement at the Basilian O’Connor House in Windsor until 2007, then moved to Anglin House, Toronto where he continued to reside with his confreres until his death. He was predeceased by his brothers Rev. John Janisse, C.S.B, Vincent and sisters Madeleine and Sister Marie Louise, O.S.U. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. On Wednesday, February 19 there will be a visitation in the chapel at the Cardinal Flahiff Basilian Centre, 95 St. Joseph St., Toronto from 8:30 AM until 10 AM when the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in the Basilian plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Basilian Fathers Retirement Fund, 95 St. Joseph St., Toronto, ON, M5S 3C2.
