I only recently heard that Ken passed away.  We are so very sorry for your loss.  I will remember Isabella saying hello to "Kenny" when she first learned to say his name. He was always so kind with her.  He was a wonderful neighbour.  Sending you big hugs

Mr Weir taught English during my years at LPCI (1978-82). He instilled a love of prose and taught us the power of words.There are few teachers that impact your life in such a way. I will never lose my love of reading, and he is one to thank for that. My condolences to the family.

Dear Shanna, Mrs. Weir and family. Sincere condolences on the passing of Mr.Weir. As a small child newly arrived from Jamaica, I was welcomed into your home and treated with kindness by both Mr. and Mrs. Weir. I will always remember Mr. Weir with fondness.

Mr. Weir was my English teacher at LPCI in the 80s. A marvelous teacher. I especially remember his dry wit. He had us keep a journal to record all the books we were reading and I have kept that journal going since. My condolences to the Weir family.

Mr. Weir taught my English classes at Lawrence in 1984-1988. His classes were always challenging but enjoyable. I still can't read Shakespeare without hearing his voice. Most importantly, he enthusiastically coached our debating team (Claudia, Faydra, Peninah and myself)- as a litigator, I couldn't help hearing Mr. Weir's so useful and kind advice in articulating oral arguments. Condolences to the Weir family on the loss of such a wonderful, inspiring and kind man.

Ken Weir was a mainstay of our street, a great neighbor and a great wit. He will be sorely missed. Our condolences Karin, Shanna and Tom.

I was lucky to have Mr. Weir - as his student, calling him "Ken" would seem disrespectful - as my Grade 13 English teacher at Lawrence Park Collegiate.  He had a very positive effect on my life -  his encouragement was instrumental in my choice of career and ability to make a living.  My sincere condolences on a great loss.

Tom, my deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your father.

I was sad to learn of Mr. Weir's death, and offer my condolences on your loss.  I was a student at LPCI from 1987-1992, and knew Mr. Weir as both a teacher, and briefly, as a debating coach.  
His clear expectations and formal teaching style suited me, and his extensive knowledge and passion were inspiring to someone who loved reading as much as I do.  I'm still proud of the mark I got on the family tree of the Greek gods, as the assignment felt impossibly complicated back in Grade nine.  I can still recite Portia's speech from The Merchant of Venice (well, the first half anyways), and I recently read a book which made me reconsider 'A Man For All Seasons'. I'm not sure I've retained so much from any other class.  
Mr. Weir was someone I wanted to impress, someone I learned from, and someone I still think about. I'm sad to know I won't see him again, but am thankful for his choice to share his love for language with a generation of Toronto teenagers.

Tom, I would like to offer you and your family my deepest and most sincere condolences and may the soul of your father rest in peace

A life long friend to my parents and such wonderful memories of all of us together over the years in Toronto at each other's houses, church and at the cottages. We remember his great laughter, his speeches and his views on subjects with a profound statement......so funny! He will truly be missed as he was a wonderful unique and intelligent man.

Ken was a great neighbour from my many years on Castlefield. My condolences to the entire Weir family.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Mr. Weir was my favorite  teacher at LAWRENCE.  He was funny and kept me on my toes!  I thought of him often and saw him a few times over the years, which always made me happy.  
I know he will be greatly missed.

I was a fellow teacher of Ken's at Northern; he was in English and I was in Business Ed.  He was a charter member of the noon hour Ping Pong club where he exhibited skill and humour.  After retirement in 1996, my many walks would joyously intersect with Ken as he would be out and about and we always stopped to chat.  HE WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON!

My condolences to Mr. Weir's family. He was a wise, funny, brilliant teacher. His lessons continue to inspire me. I find myself quoting him all the time. Thinking of you and sending you my love.

Mr. Weir was both my English teacher and much beloved coach of our debate team.  I learned a lot from him in both capacities and remember both his wisdom and his warmth.  He will be missed.

Wonderful colleague, great teacher, loyal friend, Ken Weir will be greatly missed by his many students, colleagues and friends who loved his wit, his Irish charm, his scholarly aplomb and his love for the Book of Common Prayer plus the poetry of William Butler Yeats. He will be missed by the many who loved him including his caring wife of fifty-seven years, Karin, and his son and daughter as well as the countless students who discovered the art of debating in his classes.

To Mr. Weir's family, please accept my sincere condolences. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Weir as my debate coach and English teacher over a few grades while at LPCI ('87-'92). To this day, Catcher in the Rye and The Great Gatsby are great loves of mine because Mr. Weir taught them so well. He treated us like intelligent people - never condescending, always expecting our best. He pushed us to do better through his structured approach which made it all the more delightful when we could make him laugh. He had a wonderfully dry sense of humour. I feel very fortunate to have had him as a teacher.

So sad to hear about Mr. Weir's passing.  I remember English class in the 70s fondly with his wonderful sense of humour.  He also taught me the bible during LPCI's experiment in Grade 13 seminar/labs in '76/'77. May your memories sustain you.

Mr. Weir was my favourite English teacher. He taught me how to read critically and how to write an essay. He had the driest sense of humour and was a source of great entertainment as much as he was a great teacher. I still remember and apply the knowledge and insights I acquired under his guidance and I think of him often. My condolences to all who know and love him.

Our condolences at the passing of your Dad, grandfather and husband. I remember him well from when the girls were young. I hope that all those fond memories give you comfort and bring a smile to your faces.

Mr Weir was a wonderful English teacher (1977-78) and both inspired and terrified me!  I learned the 'art' of debating in his class and will always remember his wry sense of humour.  Those who he taught are truly lucky. I remember him fondly - and send my deepest condolences to his family.

Mr Weir was my grade 13 English teacher in 1986-87. I always looked forward to his class even though English was not my best subject, but his passion for the subject was  infectious. Decades later with my own children in tow, I was always happy to occasionally run in to him as he took walks in our neighbourhood and recount to him and my kids how much I loved his class. My condolences to his family.

Mr. Weir taught me Grade 13 English in 1980-1981. I had many good teachers at LPCI, but he stands out as one of my favourites. My condolences to his family.

Ken Weir had that nodding walk and wry smile when I met him at St. Clements in the 80's. Always a gentleman. My Dad did his plumbing repairs and both of them shared a love a reading.

Ken Weir was one of my English teachers at Lawrence Park in the late 1970s. He was an intelligent leader of students with a mischievous sense of humour. My love of Bernard Shaw and the metaphysical poets instilled by him is still with me today.
