

He was the beloved husband of Lieut.-Colonel (Dr.) Susan, loving father of Captain Peter (Captain Lee-Ann) and Richard (Maria), proud Opa of Emma, Nate, Abbi, and Aidan, dear brother of Epke Ross, William van Duinen, and Toon van Duinen.
Lieut.-Colonel van Duinen was born in Holland and emigrated to Canada when he was 18. He entered The Salvation Army College for Officer Training in 1969 and served, with his wife, Susan, as a Salvation Army officer for 35 years in Canada and Europe in congregational and administrative appointments. His latest responsibility was as Area Commander for the Ontario Central East Division based in Toronto.
Lieut.-Colonel van Duinen was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in December 2012. It was presented at Queen's Park by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Road, Scarborough,on Friday, June 7th, 2013 from 5 until 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at The Salvation Army Agincourt Community Church, 3080 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, on Saturday June 8th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
