Born in the small mountain-town of Navelli, in the province of L’Aquila, Italy on May 18, 1932, Giovanna passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on October 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She lived a long, full life guided by three simple universal joys: to eat, to pray, and to love.
Food was a celebration, connection and heritage for Giovanna. She delighted in the simple pleasures of life: meals with family around a crowded table, and afternoons working in her garden, growing fresh food. Her kitchen (aka, The Spicy Broom), was a gathering place, where laughter and aromas mingled into memories. Generous and joyful, she made everyone feel welcome.
Faith was a quiet, steady current in Giovanna’s life. She found solace and strength in daily prayer, in the church and in her home, and in the company of neighbours and friends who shared her beliefs. She taught by example, that gratitude and compassion are the heart of living. In times of sorrow and in times of joy, her faith was the anchor and the blessing.
Above all, Giovanna loved her family, her friends, her home-town of Navelli, and her chosen home of Canada. She offered kindness without reservation, with a song, a story, and a laugh. She believed in home and hearth, in staying connected across continents and generations, in the power of a phone call, a letter, a visit. Her legacy is love made visible in everyday acts.
Giovanna is survived by her children; Clara (Angelo), and Andy (Robin), and her grandson Luke, sisters-in-law Antionetta Patrizio, Laura Patrizio, and Maria Enotera, and honorary granddaughter Annabelle; she was preceded in death by her husband Quintino, and siblings Rosa Colasante (Giuseppe), Pasquale Patrizio, and Felice Patrizio. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews, and by all who knew her warm heart and generous spirit, knowing her in person or through her social media presence.
