She is survived by her devoted children, Natalie (Philip), Maria (Sandro) and Mike (Heather). She was a nurturing 'Nonna' to her eight grandchildren, Stephanie (Lee), Michael (Julie), Laura (Gino), Daniele, Alessandro, Matthew (Lindsay), Jordan and Victoria. A loving 'Bisnonna' to her three great-grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew and Veronica. She is also survived by her youngest brother, Renato. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years, Quirino; her beautiful daughter, Rita; her parents, Umberto and Giovanna; and her siblings: Emma, Alfredo, Carmine and Lucia.
A native Italian born in the countryside of Veroli, she immigrated to Canada by boat in 1958 arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax before settling in Toronto. Pierina married Quirino not long after arriving in Toronto. Like many post-war Italian immigrants to Toronto, Pierina and Quirino were part of a close-knit community in Corso Italia, where they worked hard as labourers and raised their children. Pierina and Quirino stayed true to their community staying in the same home on Northcliffe Blvd. until 2016, which they purchased in 1960, even though close family members had all moved away.
Pierina welcomed wholeheartedly anyone that crossed her doorstep showing her love and giving nature through food at many family gatherings: homemade pasta and gnocchi, sugo, ciambelle, crispelle, fettine to name but a few of her favourite dishes. Pierina found joy in her Catholic faith, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and visiting with family and friends. Pierina was selfless in all she did: helping raise her grandchildren, taking care of elderly family members, providing assistance to many a neighbour and their children. Pierina also worked outside the home in many factories and at Skyline Hotel, ending her working life at Honest Ed's. Pierina was a pillar of strength to all who knew her. Her absence will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank Pierina's many attentive caregivers at Kipling Acres LTC, especially Zankhna, Sonam and Marlene who were invaluable in her care. A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., at Jerrett Funeral Homes, 1141 St. Clair Avenue West. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clare's Roman Catholic Church, 1118 St. Clair Avenue West.
