Dearly beloved husband, partner and best friend of Alexandra Caverly-Lowery, he is survived by Cousin Wayne Fallis and many cousins and their families from Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and the South Shore of Montreal. Son of Betty and Wellington Lowery, Richard was born and raised on family farms in Yellow Grass and South Regina, Saskatchewan.
After an undergraduate degree from the U. of Saskatchewan, Richard moved to Toronto in the 1950’s to pursue studies in Social Work at the University of Toronto, followed by employment in Social Work positions first with The Children’s Aid Society of Ontario and then with Baycrest Hospital (1969-’78). Throughout these years, Richard’s gift in music blossomed, including as tenor soloist in Timothy Eaton Memorial (8 years) and Metropolitan United Church Choirs. His caring heart and generosity of spirit always came through his voice, singing, speaking and companioning others in their life -journeyings.
Since 1983, the country around Marmora, Ontario has been 2nd home to Richard and Alexandra, a beloved place and village where he has contributed to many facets of community life including chairing, for ten years, the SnoFest Winter Festival. Throughout these years and beyond, as an avid supporter/participant in both the Peterborough Branches of The Friends of CBC and The Canadian Authors’ Association, his sharp and broad-minded commentaries on current social systems found expression in his writings. At the time of his passing he had 3 books actively in the making!
Central to Richard’s vocational call, particularly during these last 4 decades, has been a passionate commitment to the potential of a deep reflective process in each person as manifested in his work as a registered psychotherapist in private practice. He is spoken of with love and gratitude by many whose lives have been changed by the quality and uniqueness of the practice he has developed over many years. His perspective might read, “Together we all are pilgrims on the road to greater wholeness. We live in a broken world, including within our own selves and with kindness and compassion, we companion each other on the healing journey.”
A man of such Celebration for Life, we celebrate this fine and oh-so-fun human being! Go well, Dear One into the Big Love; your work is done and we are blessed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
