Rita Anne Regan

peacefully left us on March 22, 2025, at the age of 95. Rita was predeceased by her parents,

William and Florence Regan, and her siblings, Jack, Margaret and Mary (Winstall). She is

lovingly remembered by her nieces, Susan and Michelle (Vernon); her nephew, Stephen (Laura,

deceased); and her grandnephew, Aidan, and grandniece, Renée.

Rita’s journey began on a farm in King City, where she often contrasted the horror of being

chased by roosters with the joy of riding the family horse and cutter. She inherited her mother’s

musical talent, playing the piano, while embracing the lighthearted spirit of her tone-deaf father.

Rita’s life took her from rural roots to city living, spending time in the U.K. and traveling to

places like Chicago, Ireland, and cottaging with friends on Lake Simcoe and in Muskoka.

A strong, independent woman, Rita made her home in the Yonge/St. Clair area of Toronto, where

she built a life full of laughter, quick wit and a career as a Toronto Public Health Nurse. She lived

intentionally and was deeply connected to both her Catholic faith and her Irish heritage. Her love

of animals and her passion for sporty little Austin-Healys were matched only by her devotion to

music. As a jazz pianist, Rita’s piano was her constant companion, and she shared her musical

gifts bringing joy to people of all ages. From facilitating music enrichment programs for young

children to playing in nursing homes, her music was a comfort to many.

Rita was also a devoted friend, staying engaged with current events, enjoying Toronto’s vibrant

restaurant scene and frequenting its jazz clubs. Her life was one of connection, laughter, and

creativity.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the incredible staff and caregivers at

Amica Whitby for the years of care, love and attention they provided, ensuring Rita always felt

safe, loved and comfortable. Our sincere thanks also go to the staff at Ballycliffe Long-Term

Care Home for their compassionate care during her final days.
