My deepest condolences to Janine and Gareth.  Wishing you comfort as you remember your dear Dad and Grandfather.

Today, we celebrated my grandpa’s life. Having him as a grandfather was something truly special especially on the backstretch, where it felt like he belonged to everyone. He looked out for so many people there. In a place where folks are often down on their luck, he always made sure everyone around him had something to eat. I like to think his heaven is filled with winning photos and plenty of women to chat with just the way he’d like it.

I’m writing this to inform all of my grandfather’s friends of his passing. Robert “Sandy” Fairlie was an old-school horseman who loved the horses, loved the backstretch, and loved the game. He was fortunate enough to be part of old Toronto’s racing scene.

Here’s a picture of him at Thorncliffe Park with a horse he galloped at the track that once stood at Bayview and Eglinton, and another picture with the family and his favourite horse, Mr. Epperson.

Sandy was a good friend to many at the track, and he will be missed by all who knew him. I just wanted to let everyone know how much he loved and admired the people he worked with throughout the years.

My condolences to the Fairlie Family for the loss of their Dad. My siblings and I grew up on Orley Avenue. We  grew up knowing, playing with our friends on the street. The loss of a parent is always hard. Brenda James

  My Dad knew your Dad.  He always spoke with nothing but the kindest words when he mentioned Sandy.  I believe they knew one another while working in the stucco business...perhaps?

  I can no longer check with my Dad as he passed in his 81st year, in early 2010.  His name was/is Bob Montgomery...I am his daughter Sandra.

  On behalf of my Dad & myself, I extend our deepest condolences.  I am so very sorry for your loss.  I know they are now catching up, old friends, together again.

Our Condolences to the Fairlie  family on the lose of their  father, grandfather and great grandfather .   We will all miss him in different  ways.  I for one enjoyed the summers in Muskoka when he would visit his daughters family and almost every evening,  5 o’clock “Dock Time”.   We had many good conversations and lots of laughs !!
He will be sadly missed , but thank you for many years we did have him.
