Rose ‘aka Rosie’ Raphael, was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. She graced this world for an incredible 98 years and is set to be reunited with her husband, two children, and grandchild. Rose leaves a legacy that will resonate with those who knew and loved her.
Rosie passed on May 18th, 2023, surrounded by the love and warmth of her last remaining loving child Mary ‘aka Maggie’ Fernandes. She lived a rich life that was guided by her devout faith, her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to have met her.
Born in September 1924, Rosie grew up in Quetta, Pakistan. As a young lady, she was introduced to Rock ‘aka Rocky’ Raphael, where they began to build their family with Regina, Maggie, and Emmanuel ‘aka Mannie’. Rosie lost her Rocky in 1989 and then endured the unthinkable by losing her children Regina, Mannie, and her first-born grandson Douglas ‘aka Dougie’ Fernandes.
Beyond her family, Rosie was a devout Catholic as an active member of the Holy Name Parish and St. Joseph Parish for many decades. It was during this time, she met her lifelong and cherished friends Patricia ‘aka Pat’ and Oliver Reilly, where an unshakeable friendship has endured for over three decades. Rosie also met Fr. Roshan, who treated her like his own mother, running endless errands and sharing meals with her.
Rosie had a lust for life and independence, which all her children, grandchildren, and friends supported. It is through their sacrifices of time and effort that she was able to live independently for so long.
For those that know Rosie well, you will remember for her sharp intellect that remained intact until the end. Most of all, those closest will remember her for generosity. If you arrived at her home, she would insist on making you a cup of tea and giving you something to eat.
Rosie is survived by her loving daughter Maggie, friends Pat and Oliver, son-in-law John, daughter-in-law Rachel, grandchildren - Steven, Myra, Siobhan, Michelle, Michael, Christopher, and Mark and great grandchildren - Noah, Qwinton, Myla, Alicia Rose, Ella, Titus, Evanna, Florence, and Paxton.
Farewell sweet Rosie, we find solace that you are joining your Rocky, Regina, Mannie, and Dougie. May her soul find eternal peace, and may we honor her memory by living our lives with the same unwavering zest for life, generosity, and kindness she has bestowed on us.
May Rosie’ soul rest in peace.
