Went to be with his Lord on December 3, 2025, at the age of 95. Predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth (Lee). Loving father to Mark and Melody Blain (John). Much loved Poppy of Russell and Charlotte.
Born in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland to the late William and Alfreda (nee Snow), he was the 11th of 14 children. Predeceased by his siblings Stephen, William, Albert, Graham, Lorraine, Howard, Walter, Cyril, Norman, Eric, Doug, David and an unnamed infant. He was a beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Ross came to Toronto in 1947 where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth. They were married in 1953 and enjoyed over 69 years together before her passing in December 2022.
Ross had a long career as a highly-skilled upholsterer working at the Gold Medal Furniture Company and later at Cooper Brothers Furniture, alongside his brother, Walter. Respected in the trade, he did custom work for notable clients including Alfred Sung, the Eaton and Bassett families, and the Fine Furniture Department of Eaton’s. His “Made In Canada” workmanship was featured in a 1993 issue of Chatelaine magazine.
As a young man, Ross enjoyed many outdoor activities such as fishing, golfing, skiing and hunting. He loved road trips and drove across Canada and throughout the Eastern US with Lee as his trusty map-reader. In retirement, he pursued a variety of interests and seemed to spend little time sitting down. He loved collecting antiques - especially clocks, which he taught himself to repair; he built elaborate model boats and to-scale homes in the Newfoundland Biscuit Box Style, all from scratch; he enjoyed cooking and was never afraid to try a new recipe; he was a keen flower and vegetable gardener. He enjoyed daily long walks and loved reading - especially anything pertaining to the Newfoundland of his boyhood, about which he enjoyed sharing many stories.
Along with his wife Elizabeth, to whom he was devoted, Ross made the family home a place of faith, love and care. He unfailingly encouraged and supported his children and was proud of their achievements. It was an especial joy for him to be given so many years with his grandchildren, whom he loved spending time with.
Visitation for Ross will be held at Jerrett Funeral Home, 1141 St. Clair Ave. W., on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 10am. Funeral service will follow at 11am. Following a reception, committal prayers will be held at Sanctuary Park Cemetery, 1570 Royal York Road, Etobicoke.
Donations in Ross’ memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
