

Sadie was predeceased by her parents, Ephraim and Amelia Collins, 5 very devoted siblings, first husband Major Ernest Wilfred Ibbotson, second husband Brig. Alexander Turnbull, son Robert Ibbotson.
Sadie is survived by her third husband, Herbert “Herbie” Thomasen. She will be dearly missed by her, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Gael and Gary Pearce and family, Ernie and Yvonne Ibbotson and family, Judi and Richard Bruce and family, and the children of Robert Ibbotson.
Sadie was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 27, 1921. Her parents, were active in the Fairbanks Salvation Army Corps along with Sadie and her sisters and brother.
She began her training in the Salvation Army as Cadet Sadie Collins at 19 years of age. Sadie completed the 1940 Crusaders Session at the Salvation Army Training Centre in Toronto, Ontario. As a lieutenant she was stationed at Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, St. John NB North End Corp, Montreal, Quebec, and Perth / Byng Park Toronto, Ontario before meeting Captain Ernest Ibbotson at a Congress Meeting. They married in 1944. The couple was appointed to the Long Branch, Ontario Corps. Subsequent corps included Trenton, Collingwood, Brockville, and St. John, N.B.
Major and Mrs. Ibbotson also served in the Men’s Social Services Centres in Toronto, Ontario and Winnipeg, Manitoba before transferring to the Correctional Services Department for the duration of their active careers and into retirement. Major Ernest Ibbotson was diagnosed with cancer and after several years of demonstrating great courage and fortitude, was promoted to glory on the 10th of May, 1985.
On the 12th of November 1988 Sadie married Brigadier Alex Turnbull (R). Alex was promoted to Glory on April 21, 1999. Sadie put it this way; “The Lord gave us 10 good years together”. This was followed by the loss of her youngest child, Robert, in a tragic accident on June 20th 1999.
For the next 12 years Sadie lived independently. On May 05th 2012 she married Herb Thomasen. At this time Sadie said that, “the Lord brought a good man into my life. I help him and he helps me”.
Near the end of her days Sadie paraphrased Psalms 23 summing up her life. “Surely, goodness and mercy [has] followed me all the days of my life.” She would add; “I [now] dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Family and friends may visit at the Jerrett Funeral Home, 1141 St. Clair Ave. W. (1 block east of Dufferin St) on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 10:00am-11:00am with the Funeral Service following at 11:00am. For those that wish to attend the Interment Service, it will follow directly at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 375 Mount Pleasant Rd.
