Eddie, we have just recently learned of your father’s passing.  Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family at this time. May you draw strength from all the wonderful memories you have of your father and the happy times you shared and be comforted by the fact there are now three angels together in heaven to watch over you and your family.

 I have and will always admire your strength, resilience, and independence. You lived a long life not many have a chance to live, and with that gift we have many memories. I always enjoyed listening to the stories you and Nonna would tell of the past, and your true love story together. I take comfort in knowing you are reunited with Nonna and Mom, together please watch over us. You will always be in my heart.

My love, thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time! I feel so blessed to have met you all those years ago Zio, and even though we lived half the country apart, you and your family have always remained in my heart and thoughts! I will always remember your warm smile and gentle spirit, all which made you so special! Rest In Peace next to your beautiful wife and daughter and say hello to Nonna Traquilla and my Dad!

My father was the youngest of 8 children and was a toddler when his father passed away.  The siblings were very close, hard working and banded together to support their young mother and their family.  

At the age of 19, my father was drafted and went to war where he was captured and spent 2 years in a prison camp.  Following the end of WWII and his freedom, he travelled back to his homeland and shortly thereafter, went to Argentina where he worked for a few years to earn money before returning back home to Italy to marry my mother.  In 1954, and on the advice of his father-in-law, my parents moved to Canada to make a better future for themselves.

My parents were simple Italian immigrants and devoted parents.  My father worked in construction for more than 30 years as a bricklayer.  He worked hard and never complained.  When I broke my femur and could not walk for 6 months, my parents did everything they could for me.  My father drove me to all my appointments and was always there for me.  When my mother developed Alzheimer's, my father looked after her for 10 years and did his very best to keep her in their home.  When my sister Nadia passed away, he missed her daily phone calls to check up on him and her home cooked meals.  

My father was a quiet man who liked simple things.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  His passions were watching soccer and Formula One racing.  He liked reading the Italian newspaper and keeping current on world events and what was happening back home.

All of life’s hardships and experiences made him a man of great courage and strength.  He went on to live a healthy, long and independent life.  I will miss him dearly.  My last memory of him will be watching Italy win the Euro Cup 2021 together.

In short, this is my father’s life story.  

I take comfort in knowing that my Dad, my Mother and my Sister are all reunited in heaven.

Rest in peace Dad.

Nonno, you are the example of a success story. Your journey took you from Italy to Argentina and then Canada. Life was not always easy for you, coming to a new country and not knowing the language. But you and nonna both worked hard and persevered to create a life for your family. That example of hard work was past to my mom and from her to me. I will always remember the time Tania and I had to pick beans in your garden. I tried to sneak away to watch cartoons and before I knew it you were  inside getting me back outside to come finish the job. You loved your soccer and I am happy Italy was able to deliver for you this past summer. I know Nonna and mom have welcomed you at the gates of Heaven to guide you through this next journey. May you Rest In Peace and until we meet again xo.

Zio Severino was always an inspiration to us from the stories of his life from before we were born to the example of strength and  courage that he set during Zia Teresina's illness. He was the most modest of role models without seeking praise or recognition for his many thoughtful deeds. He just set a good example because it was the right thing to do.
