

ALBON, Sister Rosemary, CJ (Sister Mary Albert) died peacefully at Michael Garron Hospital on February 26, 2026. She was in her 90th year and 67th year in the Congregation of Jesus (Loretto Sisters). Predeceased by her parents, Albert Albon and Margaret Commerford, and her sister, Colleen (Ed De Marsh) she is survived by her brother Jim, nieces and nephews. Her family moved from Rochester NY to the Niagara Falls Ontario area in her early years, and in 1959 Rosemary joined the Loretto Sisters. She taught in Separate Schools in Toronto, Stratford, Vancouver and Brampton. In 1983 she became Director of Arrabon House, a safe and supportive group home for young women of diverse backgrounds. During her 13 years in this ministry she established another residence, Lanthier Place Co-op, where young women could continue their schooling or work.
In 1997 Rosemary and two other CJ/Loretto sisters, opened a mission in Riberalta, Bolivia. She brought her skills in education and mentoring, sensitivity to the poor, and especially concern for the dignity of women, all while learning a foreign language. She returned to Toronto in 2001, was a local community leader, taught adult ESL classes, and until her death was involved in refugee and immigrant ministry resulting in some life-long friendships. In 2018 she moved to Presentation Manor. She will be greatly missed by her Loretto community and friends, and by all who loved and admired her commitment and hospitality to those in need. Visitation at Presentation Manor chapel, 61 Fairfax Crescent, Scarborough, on Thursday, March 5th, at 10:00 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10.30 a.m. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.
