

Massaquoi, Sylvia Violet ( nee Quammie), passed away peacefully on October 18th surrounded by loved ones in the home of her daughter. She is predeceased by husband of 42 years Johannes Massaquoi , brother Vere Quammie and parents Ivy and Percival Quammie. Survived by daughters Heather Laconia (Dubai), Notisha (Toronto) sisters Sheila ( Oakville), Merle ( Bolton) , Ramona ( England), brothers Winston ( St. Croix), Ewart ( Trinidad) and many nieces and nephews. Sylvia was born in San Fernando, Trinidad and upon graduation from Naparema Girls High School she trained as a Midwife and Nurse in New Castle- upon -Tyne, England. She worked as an Obstetrical Nursing Supervisor and Instructor for over 40 years in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Grand Falls, Newfoundland, and Ingersoll, Ontario. Sylvia was an avid gardener, pianist, flutist, traveller, reader and cruciverbalist. She was most proud of the 100’s of nursing students she trained and supervised and the 1000’s of babies she delivered throughout her career. Visitation will take place at Trull Funeral Home and Cremation Center at 1111 Danforth Avenue, Toronto 416-465-4661, Tuesday, October 22 from 6pm-9pm.
