Sylvia grew up in Netley Abbey, Southampton, England. She was 17 years old when she joined the Air Force and met her husband. They immigrated to Canada in 1954, sailing across on the Queen Mary and settled in Toronto.
Sylvia spent most of her career working at Imperial Life Assurance Company, where she met life long friends. She had been singing her entire life, performing at various venues and of course always in church. Sylvia was always a member of the church or choir, in Markham, Don Mills, and then at Hope United. At Hope United she was active in the choir and on the church board for over 40 years. Every Remembrance Day she would carry the wreath of poppies and share one of her many stories or poems of the War Years with the Hope United Congregation. Sylvia was also a member of East York Community Care Program for approximately 30 + years, then a member of Woodgreen Seniors Program for many years. She always enjoyed the speakers and activities but most of all, it was the friendships she made that meant the most to her.
Sylvia had a wonderful presence to her. She was always filled with such joy and positivity. Always supportive to those around her. She was an inspiration of hope and strength to so many, and when she entered a room it would come alive. There was always a twinkle in her eye and when you spoke to her you always felt like you were the only one that mattered. Sylvia was loved and admired by so many people.
Sylvia will be greatly missed by her daughter Deborah, her family in New Zealand, England, Australia and her many friends here in Canada.
A Celebration of Life for Sylvia will be held on Sunday April 13,2025 at 2:00 Pm at Hope United Church located at 2550 Danforth Ave, Toronto ON M4C 1L2.
