It is with great sadness that the Baker Family announces the sudden passing of its patriarch, Terry Edward Baker, on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at his Eight Mile Point family home with his beloved wife of 52 years Jacqueline (Nash) at his side.
Born in Toronto on St. Patrick's Day in 1942 to the late engineer and Toronto Police Officer Wesley Edward Baker and late Marion Josephine Baker. Terry was father of Gordon (Meredith), Casey (Karen), Michael, Terry (Wendy), Scott and Stacey (Jason Rennie). Brother of Janice (Kemp) and late Joyce Baker. Grandfather to eleven so far, Terry also leaves behind his beloved uncle, Gordon Casey, and many nieces and nephews.
Terry started his career at Allstate and with that theme, later founded Courtesy Insurance and Canadian Insurance Computer Systems (CICS) with offices across Canada, and was also a past president of the Insurance Brokers association of Toronto. Terry always had a fondness for the film industry and in his early insurance years created the Silent Cinema and Film Museum on Avenue Road. Many remember him running across the street from his offices to run the projectors at the cinema while Jacqueline collected the tickets.
Terry, a long time Beaches resident, was always dabbling in real estate, but renovating and owning the O’Malley’s Tavern and Belmont Hotel on Mutual Street was a favourite.
Terry (Dad) will be remembered as a passionate family man that enjoyed life at the cottage but most important, his family around him. We will all miss him dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 2pm at the JERRETT FUNERAL HOME, 660 Kennedy Rd., Scarborough. Online condolences may be placed at www.jerrettfuneralhome.com
