It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William "Bill" George Leighton, who left us peacefully at the age of 73. A devoted father, cherished family member, and man of simple joys, Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on April 15, 1951, in Toronto, Bill lived a life filled with love, integrity, and an appreciation for the small, meaningful moments. His greatest pride was his son, Aaron, whom he cherished deeply. For Bill, family was everything, and his unwavering support and affection were the foundation of his relationships.
Bill’s love of classic rock music—from the timeless hits of the ‘60s through the ‘90s—filled his home and his life with rhythm and nostalgia. He could often be found listening to his favorite bands, singing along, or simply enjoying the sound of the music that was the soundtrack of his life. Bill brought a lot of joy and good times through his music. He was an accomplished piano player and graduated the Royal Conservatory program. Playing piano and jamming with friends like Lou Fortunato created some wonderful memories.
An avid fan of wartime movies and documentaries, Bill had a profound respect for history and the bravery of those who came before him, inspired in part by his father, George Leighton, a WWII veteran. He found solace in stories of struggle and triumph, appreciating the resilience that shaped the world.
Known for his genuine spirit and kind heart, Bill was a man of few words but great depth. He found comfort in life’s simple pleasures: the feel of well-worn blue jeans matching his clear blue eyes, the camaraderie of family and friends, and quiet moments of reflection. His sincerity and good-natured soul touched everyone who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his beloved son, Aaron; his brothers, Allan and Tommy; his sisters, Maryanne and Maggie; and the extended family that adored him.
Though he may no longer walk among us, Bill’s legacy of love, loyalty, and warmth will endure, forever a guiding light for those who were fortunate to know him.
Rest in peace, Bill. You will always be remembered with love.
