Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and great, great- grandmother, Ada Belle was born in South Los Angeles and was raised in the Morningside Park section of Inglewood, CA. As a teenager, she was active in Job's Daughters along with her three younger sisters. They are June Logan of Long Beach, Nancy Singley (Chet) of Anaheim, and Donna Walsh (Gene) of Durango, CO. Her life was centered around the Methodist Church where she met and married Robert L. "Bob" Peterson, October 31, 1942. Their daughter Jean Chamberlin (John Delaney) became the light of her life in 1943 and with the return of Coast Guardsman husband Bob, their son Steve (Angela) was born. In 1948 the family moved to Hermosa Beach and all have lived in the South Bay ever since. Ada Belle loved her children, her four grandchildren, three great- grandchildren and one great, great- grandson. Ada Belle became a member of United Methodist Women, serving as President and was always active with them. With her husband, she worked in his L.A. Examiner circulation office in Hermosa Beach until 1970. When Bob became a Hermosa Beach Rotary Club member, she joined their Rotary Anns and served as President of that group in the late 1960's. She became a member of P.E.O., Chapter IQ, Hermosa Beach in 1971 until the present. As the family grew they camped in happy places such as Huntington Lake, Ca, Yellowstone and other locations mostly in the western states. In 1957 the Petersons began their traveling with a trip to Europe for a Rotary Convention in Lucerne Switzerland, thus beginning a love of that life that never left her. Always a church person, she sang in the choir many years. She dearly loved her life at the cabin in Pine Cove, Idyllwild and spent many happy times there. Her latest love was the birth of her great granddaughter Natalie Thompson, January 4, 2010, a joy she treasured. In passing, she leaves, in addition to her sisters, husband and children, many family members, cousins and beloved friends. A memorial service for Ada Belle will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 2 at First United Methodist Church, 243 Broadway (at Torrance Blvd.), Redondo Beach, CA. A Memorial fund for Ada Belle Peterson is at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made there, or to a charity of choice.
