Having worked with Al at TRW for many years, I have a lot of fond memories.  One special memory is when I and his other â€œGirlsâ€ took him to lunch for his birthday and hired a stripper to come to the restaurant and perform.  Iâ€™ll never forget Alâ€™s expression when he realized what was happening!  Another memory is how much he loved his dogs, I think their names were Duke and Duchess.  Al was out of town and his neighbor called that his dogs were digging a hole and were close to escaping the yard.  Annette Flanigan and I went over and plugged up the dirt hole (in our working clothes, including heels).  We couldnâ€™t let anything happen to those dogs while he was away. Little did I know that in 1982, when I walked into TRW's Bldg E1 to begin my new job in Space Park, I was about to meet my future boss, my greatest mentor and my lifelong friend.   During the 5 years that I worked for Al, he often told people that he was the manager, but I was the boss. (I still laugh at this one when I think about it.)  .  Under his tutelage, I learned much about financial forecasting, strategic planning and computer programming, but, more importantly, I learned that we could work side by side during those 60+hour weeks of preparing a financial forecast  and still laugh, have fun and remain great friends.   His big heart, quick wit and limitless wisdom set him apart from all others.   His sense of humor was amazing.    He had many friends, both two-legged and four-legged.      Even after I left TRW in 1990 to hop on the "mommy trail", our friendship continued.  I spoke to him nearly everyday for years.  He became "Uncle Al, the kiddie's pal" (one of his favorite names he called himself)  to my daughter, Kelsey.  He embraced my husband, Kevin, as if they were related by blood.    He was the only guy I ever knew who could finish a crossword puzzle in the "LA Times".        I lost one of my best friends this week.  I shall miss him dearly. I was very saddened to hear about Al's passing this week.  One of my fondest/funniest memories of Al was when I would walk by his office and see him dozed off with his pen in his hand. I would tip-toe past his office so as not to wake him. I would walk by a couple of minutes later and he would be wide awake, hard at work.  I also remember his love for his beloved dogs, Duke and Duchess.  I feel very fortunate and blessed to have known Al.  He was one of the kindest, nicest people I've had the pleasure to know and he had a great sense of humor as well. I had not seen nor talked to Al in quite some time; however, I have thought of him so many times over the years and the thought of him brought a smile to my face and always will.   Lorri Saldana

I worked with Al at TRW for 20+ years. He was a gem in every way. A man with a good heart and always a kind word for everyone. Al was the kind of person that you never did not want to see in the hallway even on a hectic work day. You could always count on Al to help solve a problem and not add to it. I will always remember him fondly and my condolences to all of his relatives and friends.

We are very sorry to hear of Al's passing.  He was such a kind, loving, and generous person who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Working for Al, BK (before kid) was one of the most fondest time working here at NGST.  His gentle and kind spirit set the tone throughout the entire E1 department and even through the toughest forecasting deadline crunch periods, not a day would go by without Al putting a smile on each one of the faces that had the pleasure of knowing him.  Al you will truly be missed.  The heavens are lucky to have you now.  God Bless you!

Growing up,we only saw Uncle Alan on holidays if we were lucky.And by lucky I mean, he was the most thoughtful,caring person in the room.It didn't matter who you were, he would stop to listen to what you had to say,and actually take interest in what you said, Just because he cared about everyone as if they were family! And I Thank God that he blessed ours!!!   Almost ten years ago (05/27/97)Uncle Alan came to our wedding down in California on a cruise ship.Though he didn't go on the cruise with us and the rest of the family, he did take the top of our weddding cake home with him to freeze,so that we could have it later for a keepsake.That is the kind of person I hope we can all strive to be like and learn from!!   He touched not only Michelle's and my HEART,but everyone's around him.              GO HUSKIES!!!!!

We'll miss Al at our family holiday gatherings and celebrations.  We'll miss out on lots of televised games without Al calling us to turn on the TV.       We'll miss hanging out with our buddy....."Do you want to come over for dinner?" - "Sure,....what are we having?"      And Bob will miss going to "shoot-em-up" movies with Al - those that Judy would just as well skip.

Iâ€™ll remember many things about Uncle Alan; his thoughtfulness, generosity, humor, wit and especially his love for his family, friends and animals. I remember one Christmas at Grama and Papa Coxâ€™s when I was 5 or 6. Alan was sitting in the living room, sipping from a glass of milk and his cat (canâ€™t remember the catâ€™s name) jumped up in his lap. At the time, Alan was wearing a mustache and each time he sipped some milk he would lean down to let the cat lick the milk from his mustache. I though it very special he would let an â€œanimalâ€ lick his lip. I also remember what a generous host he was the few times I was in LA to visit. He made sure we got to see the sites and eat in his favorite restaurants (he always paid but occasionally would let me leave a tip). We will all miss â€œUncle Alanâ€ and can only look forward to the day we meet again.

There are no words to express how much my family and I miss and love Uncle Alan.  We have particularly gotten closer to him for the last three or four years , enabling us to spend more time with him, taking him to movies andjust sharing his life with him.  At one point when we decided that he was not safe at home alone any more we were very afraid as to how to he would take the news.  In typical Uncle Alan style, however he took it well and ending up loving life at the Iris and we made sure to visit at least monthly, sometimes more frequently.  We loved bringing him movies and watching them with him.   We always took him out to eat...that was another love of his    life and we loved that too.  He has had a tremendous influence on our children.  I will forever remember all the times we went to Costco and Long's together.  We are so very lucky to have had this time we spent with you.

Al was one of the nicest kind hearted people I have ever known. We had pretty much lost contact over the past few years but, Ron and I have thought of him often. His 2 beautiful dogs, Duke & Dutches were the off spring of our 2 dogs, Toshia a German Shephard and Sean a Malamute Huskie. We had 5 sets of identical twins and Duke and Dutches were the only 2 pups that were pure white. Al fell in love with them before he met them and insisted he wanted both of them. What a great life he gave to them! They were 2 "Lucky Dogs". Al would bring them over so the doggies could get together to visit and play. I remember how much he loved those two dogs! He was the same kind person to his people friends, very generous and always willing to share his time with anybody who needed it. Al, you will be missed by all of your 2 and 4 legged friends! I'm going to miss Uncle Alan, and his smile.  He was one of the kindest people I've ever known.  When I went to visit him in L.A., he always made a point of introducing me to his friends, and neighbors - and I wasn't just is niece from Washington, I was his TWIN sister's daughter.  He was always proud of his family.    Family and friends meant more to him than anything.  He always enjoyed hearing about what my kids had been doing, and other family members here in Washington.      We'll miss you lots Uncle Al - until we meet again. I visited Uncle Al after spending 2 months in Mexico as an exchange student during my senior year of high school ('72). He spent several days showing me around town, taking me out to lunch and dinner, introducing me to his friends and generally keeping me busy while I was there.  I remember the cat he had then was named "Rosencranz", which I always thought was a rather strange name.  I visited again about a year later, after finishing boot camp for the Navy, and I remember he took me to the movie "The Last Detail", with Jack Nicholson, which was about 2 sailors taking a third one to Leavenworth prison.  If you've seen the movie, you know it's pretty graphic, and he asked me if that's what Navy life was really like.  As a new recruit, I hadn't seen anything like what's in the film, and when he was asking me, I was wondering the same thing, and wondering what I'd gotten myself into. Now I always think about him whenever I see any Nicholson movie.      I always looked forward to seeing my "longest distance" Uncle, though it was tough to get over to Tacoma sometimes when he would come up for a visit.  As kids we always wondered why he had moved so far away, but I'm glad he had so many good friends to spend his time with in California.  I'll regret that I never got the chance to introduce him to Patti, the new lady in my life. I'm sure she would have loved him as much as we all do.

I shared a Thanksgiving dinner with Al and the Kevin Flanigan Family some years ago. Annette has kept me posted on Al's activities over the years so I actually thought of him as my friend also. Since uncle Alan was only 11 years older than I, I remember going to Grama and Papaâ€™s and playing with his cat Penny(with a crooked tail), all of his tennis balls and him taking Philip and me to Wrightâ€™s Park to sled down the â€œBig Hillâ€ and telling us what yellow snow was.      I remember his infectious laugh and that he could speak Spanish.  I still have the red practice football jersey he gave me from his manager days at Stadium High and that I wore for good luck during my high school track days.      Pam and I have a very special memory of staying with him in his Brentwood Apt.  He had all of those coupons and planned our day and then took us to dinner (I will pay you leave the tip) to debrief what we did that day and then plan the next day activities.  He showed us the sights in his Peugot with the top open listening to Neal Diamond.  That was also the week Rosecrantz showed up at his doorstep and you know Uncle Alan and his pets.      Uncle Alan was very generous at Christmas and Pam and I always used his gift for special things:  my Craftsman Tools, birdbaths, beautiful sumac trees, cobblestones for the patio and walkway around our potting shed that I built last summer.      Uncle Alan you were very special to all your family and friends and set the bar very high for all of us to live up to. I met Al on my first day at TRW in the late 60's, he was always very cheerful and helpful and made my job much easier.  He was a great guy and we will all miss him. He was always helpful in working our every day problems.  My condolences to his family.  Jack  & Donna Taylor

I have known Al for over 25 years. It was a pleasure working him in the in the 1980's and then remaining friends afterwards. Al was one of the nicest people that I have known. My sympathy and prayers are with the family.

I always think of Alan as my ittle brother, but he was the strong one in time of need. He set his goals high, and he worked very hard to achieve them. Sometimes he worked two or three jobs at a time.      Being a twin gave him a priority at home with his twin sister Ann. The "twins" always took care of each other. Even as babies, Mama said "twins know and communicate with each other". Mama said, "when they were tiny babies, they would turn their heads towards each other and look for each other". Their bond was very strong and very special.      I would often call him to make sure he was watching the Seahawks or Huskies when the games were televised. He loved that. I still think, "I better call Alan"...then I remember.      He was known by "Al" to his friends and co-workers, but to me he was Alan. He was named after Daddy, and I always called my baby brother,"Alan".      Thank you for all of your kindness and generosity, your love and laughter and the countless happy memories of growing up at 507 N. I Street.      I love and miss you....until we meet again. I am saddened to hear of Al's death.  We worked for many years in different divisions of TRW.  Al was highly regarded for his financial expertise and I had many business related conversations with him.  I always found Al to be a good friend.

We are sorry we can not be there on Wednesday.     We are saddened to hear of "Uncle Al's" passing and will miss him especially at Christmas time!

Al is one of the funniest and smartest people I have ever met.  It was the year of 1984 when he hired me as a Financial Analyst at TRW.  ESG was a great place to start my division finance career.  I remember watching his small TV (back in the days when TVs were allowed at TRW) and the then new MTV channel was always on.  Doing Finance to "WHAM" in his office was one of my first assignments.      Al spoke many languages and I was surprised at the number of books and albumns in all languages he had at his house.  Such a well educated person and yet always there making the staff laugh were things I admired the most about him.        Then he left for Colorado to work at a subsidiary.  He left me with his office and pictures of old friends everywhere, including some women with scant clothing!   But upon his return, he moved into my hometown, Hermosa Beach, where he resided for many years.  The dogs and the view were the great at his house.      We stayed in touch over the years and he was there to wish me well in 2001 when I left TRW to move back East.  The Laker banner will fly in your behalf, Al!        Love you always,  Nancy & Dave
