My deepest sympathies and condolences. I fondly remember this past Christmas Eve with the family and meeting Andrew and Lucinda as a guest of Nora where I was warmly welcomed. There is a lot of heart, love, and respect in this family. My heart and prayers goes out to you.

I want to thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences to our family.  And for those who shared their memories and who continue to do so on this web site.      Daddy was a strong man physically and willfully.  As a family man all of us as young children felt safe and secure growing up.  No matter what turmoil this world threw out (Kennedy assassinations, threat of nuclear war, end of world predictions, earthquakesâ€¦etc) we could handle it with the comfort and strength from our father, a rock to lean on.      At daddyâ€™s memorial family and friends touched on his woodworking, mechanical, culinary (eggs benedict, orange glazed chicken, hors dâ€™oeuvres, and salad dressings none better), medical care (family and pets), and musical talents (guitar, piano,harmonica, mouth harp, and anything you could bang a tune out of).  He was blessed with many talents and did them well.   He was a man of stand up character; he would leave no one stranded you could always count on his help at any hour of the day.      A family story that memorializes his heroism.  In the early 70â€™s we rented a motor home and took a family vacation to Sequoia Natâ€™l Park.  We just arrived at our campsite and strolled to the lake edge.   A young teenage boy had swam to the center of the lake and tired.  Sapped of his energy he cried out for help. We were trying to figure out if the boy was in distress or just calling out to someone at shore as he was fairly far out in the lake.    My father wasted no time; he removed his shoes, shirt, and emptied his pockets in seconds and dived to the boyâ€™s rescue.  The vision of my father comforting the boy as they made their way back to shore are vivid in my memory.   Our heroâ€¦our dad, a soldier of those in distress.      In the last few months of his life daddy had difficulty walking.  Nora was with him at the physical therapy center.  He was helped to the restroom by a nurse, when he was done the nurse brought the wheel chair up close to assist him back to bed, he refused prohibitively.  The nurse asked, â€œoh you want to walk back by yourselfâ€?  Daddy replied, â€œhell no I want to runâ€!      Daddyâ€™s running with the angels in a beautiful place ten times greater than man can ever imagine.      I love you and will miss you.      Your son Johnnyâ€¦mijo.      To Rosie:       My big sister who preceded daddy in death 3 years ago.  I always felt that when we lost a parent you would be there to comfort us.  I knew it would be difficult but with your love and compassion we would get trough it together.     You were there for us after all from up above and within our hearts.  Its comforting knowing daddy is with you-------He called your name again.

A message to Daddy:      I know I wasnâ€™t No.1   or No.2 not even No.3   I know I was the oldest and was expected   more of.  I lived a hard life with a strict father,   I always tried to obey to do no wrong cause I   was afraid of you.  I didnâ€™t have the courage that   Rosie, Eva and Nora had to speak out for themselves.   I never had the courage to speak to you and tell you how   I felt.  But I know in your own special way you loved me.      Love you Daddy, now youâ€™re with Rosie and the Lord!!      Love you      Gloria Jean

"Grandpa" was a great man... no doubt.  I always appreciated the fact that he never judged me.  I used to show up at his door every other week with his granddaughter.  I looked raggedy, I talked reaggedy, and I acted pretty raggedy.  My car usually needed some work when I got there (he used to charge my battery for me and do other work).  I even got stopped by the police right in front of his house one time!  No matter what, he always accepted me and made me fel like family.  For the record, his attitude rubbed off on the whole family!  Everybody is caring, accepting, and forgiving.  I am greatly appreciative to have known all of you!  Thank you for everything. Mr. Guillen was truly the family patriarch.  He was respected and very much loved by his family and friends.  I am glad that I had a chance to get to know him.      I am grateful for the time he helped us cut down bushes in Noraâ€™s back yard.  I appreciate all of the great furniture we have in our home that was made by his skilled hands.  I am thankful for the times we were able sit in the living room and talk while everyone else was gathered around the kitchen table.      Mr. Guillen always made me feel welcome, at home and part of the family.      Thanks Mr. Guillen for everything.  Weâ€™ll miss you.               Al
