Art L Duarte

June 11, 1934- August 11, 2024

Art Duarte, 90, passed away peacefully while at home in the early morning hours on Sunday August 11, 2024 surrounded by his loving daughters and family. He is survived by his wife Marsha R. Duarte, his three daughters, Maria aka DeeDee White (David), Polly Duarte (Alan Matsunaga), and Sharon Priest (Steve), six grandchildren, Kandis (Angelo) Gumbs, Sydney (Joe) Wieland, Katelyn, Kyle, and Jackie Priest, and Dr. Alison (Andre DDS) Fang and six great-grandchildren Hailey White, Andruw, Kendal, and Marcel Gumbs, Jay and Ryann Wieland. Sisters Alice Solis and Martha Alvidrez, brothers Frank, Henry, Albert and Michael Duarte. Art was preceded in death by his first wife Cora Duarte, his parents Artemio and Maria Dolores Duarte, brothers Miguel, and Hector, and sisters Laura and Enriqueta Duarte.

Art was one of twelve siblings, he was raised in Torrance, CA and was a resident for over 65 years where he attended Torrance High School. He later worked for Griffey Electronics. In the mid-seventies he opened his television service shop known as Art’s TV Service. He was president of California State Electronics Association in 1976 and remained active until 1977. Art later opened his pawn store known as Five Points Jewelry & Loan in downtown Torrance on Cabrillo.

Art was an active member at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and later involved as an usher at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Lomita. He was very involved with the Mexican American Golf Association (MAGA) and developed many lasting friendships. Art’s favorite pastime was his love for golf, and his family. He was also an active member at the Redondo Beach Elks Lodge.

Art will be missed by many family members and friends. A mass service in his honor will be held on Thursday September 12, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Lomita on Eshelman with a reception following at Lighthouse Memorials White & Day Center 901 Torrance Blvd. in Redondo Beach. Graveside services will be held privately at Holy Cross cemetery.
