
Betty Alice Miller Jones, 72 of Rancho Palos Verdes passed away with loved ones by her side on Friday, July 22, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. Known as a woman of great strength and integrity, she was an inspiration to all that knew her.
Betty was born on January 28, 1933 in Los Angeles, CA, to the late Carolina Miller Robertson and Edward N. Miller.
As a lifelong resident of the South Bay area, she touched many lives through her passion for education, volunteerism and community service.
Betty earned her B.S. in Public Administration from the University of La Verne in 1978. She served 9 years as a member of the Lawndale School Board, where she was instrumental in the formation of the Association of Low Wealth Schools.
Her other activities included membership in the Lawndale Monday Eves, a junior women’s club and the Assistance League of San Pedro-South Bay. Betty also was deeply involved in supporting her husband Jack in his Rotary work and served as First Lady when Jack was district Governor in 1999-2000. Betty loved to travel and experience other cultures and people.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother William A. Robertson.
Survivors include husband Jack Jones, daughters Jacquelyn Jacobs and Sandra Mitchell of Florida, sister Judy Hutton and brother Jim Robertson. She was “Nana†to her grandchildren Maria Page, Matt Jacobs, Lauren, Erin and Madison Mitchell and great grand-children Aryel, Michael and Elias Page.
