Boen Husen was born on July 10, 1957 in Bandung, Indonesia to Achmad Husen and Herawati Ningsih. Boen was one of eight children: sisters- Tjandra, Yohanna, and Yen; and brothers- Benny, Barry, Lomri, and Ferry. He immigrated to the US in 1983 where he helped run the family’s G&S Liquor Store in Torrance and eventually landed a career in international importing and exporting where he successfully grew in his profession for over 30 years. Also during that time, as a natural entrepreneur, Boen co-owned and franchised small businesses including a laundry mat and mail center.
Boen was known to be a smart and hardworking man of many skills. He was especially very handy around the home and was always found working on a house remodel project. He was kind and generous with his time and resources. Also, a great cook and often showcased his talents on the grill to prepare a feast for his family. Boen enjoyed spending his time outdoors, at the beach while jamming out to his favorite tunes such as reggae, island music, and classic rock. He was a big sports enthusiast from teaching his kids how to play tennis at a young age and helping coach his daughter, Olivia’s soccer games to being a proud, diehard Lakers fan.
A man with a true tough and tender heart- he took great care of his loved ones. Boen looked out for his family, was very protective, and only sought what was best for them. He was a loving provider and always encouraged success in his children, of whom he took immense pride in. He fulfilled several important roles throughout his life: a beloved and supportive husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
When he was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, he did not allow it to diminish who he was and what he was capable of. Boen bravely fought his diagnosis head on with tremendous courage and strength all while fulfilling his many responsibilities and duties as a husband, father, and provider. Even when instructed to rest, he would stubbornly be found working on a home project. In Fall 2022, he was able to travel home to Indonesia to visit with family and friends and it brought him much joy. Boen was lovingly surrounded by his family as he peacefully went home to be with the Lord on the evening of April 6, 2023.
Boen is survived by his wife Amelia, his children Shannette, Stefanie, Noah, and Olivia, sons-in-law Frank and Johnny, grandchildren Shane, Kennedy, Lucas, Shiloh, Emery, and Lorenzo, and his seven siblings. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, April 30, at 10am, at Lighthouse Memorial & Receptions – White & Day Center, 901 Torrance Boulevard, Redondo Beach, California 90277.
Guests are encouraged to dress in Boen’s favorite clothing: tropical print or Lakers gear.
