Born in Vancouver B.C. on November 28, 1915, her family moved to Hermosa Beach in 1926. She worked for many years for the telephone company. In 1942 Catherine married Hollie Murray. Catherine was on call as a police matron for the Hermosa Beach Police Department before police departments had full-time policewomen, working for little or no pay to serve the community, while at the same time working as a Hermosa Beach Police switchboard operator. Catherine's love of Hermosa Beach led her to participate in numerous community events and organizations. Catherine, her husband Hollie, and her brothers and sisters organized and ran the first kids' Halloween parties at Clark Stadium, and she and Hollie helped with the Woodcraft Rangers youth club. She served as President of the Hermosa PTAs, Hermosa Beach Garden Club, the Woman's Club, and the Policemen's Wives and the Firemen's Wives clubs. In 1991 she was named ''Woman of the Year'' by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by her two sons, Bernard and Bill, and by a large and loving extended family
