Devoted mother, adoring grandmother and loyal wife, Corinne Conway, a 36 year resident of Rancho Palos Verdes, passed away at home on the morning of Sunday, March 1st after a seven month struggle to recover from a stroke. Corinne was 84 when she died.
She was born Corinne Helen Liddell on March 19, 1924, in Gary, Indiana and was one of eleven children. She married Patrick Henry Conway III on November 7, 1953. Before marriage she served in the WACS during WWII and worked at a variety of jobs in and around South Bend, Indiana - including as an elevator operator and 'flipping tin' in a steel mill.
After having seven children and living in several Midwestern and eastern states, the Conway's settled in RPV in 1973. After raising her children she returned to work, holding various retail positions - jobs where she would have constant interaction with people, which was very important to her. Active at St. John Fisher Church, The House of Yaweh thrift store and other groups, she was always on the go. The most common memory friends have of her is that she was always fun to be around and that she enjoyed herself whatever she was doing.
Her greatest passion was her grandchildren. She was an avid walker, swimmer, traveler and reader. She regularly attended live concerts and the theatre. She was immensely proud of her older brother Barney, who performed with the Lawrence Welk Orchestra for 35 years. She enjoyed spending time with close friends, some of whom she knew for decades. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her seven children: Daughters Cynthia Conway of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; Teresa Conway of Santa Barbara, CA; Connie Stannard (Jim) of Rochester, MN; Miriam Eid of Irvine CA; Laurie Gaschott (Alan) of Shoreview, MN; and Sons Patrick "Zak" Conway (Dagmar) and Dennis Conway, both of San Francisco, CA; six grandchildren; Erin, Soraya, Egon, Sophie, Ryan and Finn. As well as three siblings; Beatrice Fisher of Canoga Park, CA; Bernadette Parker of Corona, CA and Jim Liddell of La Mesa, CA. Preceded in death by parents Beatrice and Raymond Liddell, husband Patrick, brothers Raymond, Barney and Robert; and sisters Mary, Martha, Renee and Jeanne.
A gathering of family & friends will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 at McCormick Redondo Beach Chapel from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm with a Memorial Mass to follow at St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes at 2:30 pm. Internment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rochester, Minnesota.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be sent in her name to the House of Yaweh in Lawndale, 310-675-1384, or the National Stroke Association - www.stroke.org.
