
Dorothy R. Sumpter, born June 17, 1917 in Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2009. She lived in the South Bay for more than 60 years. Dorothy and her husband, Logan, came to California in the early 1940's. They settled in Hawthorne, but soon moved to Redondo Beach where they raised their family. In the early 1970's, they relocated to Wilmington to spend their retirement years. Dorothy lost Logan in 1985, but she remained in their home until her passing. She had a wonderful life and was deeply loved by her family.
Her youngest son, Timothy, and a grandson, Timothy Bryan Tiner, also precede Dorothy in death. Surviving children are Robert (Linda) Sumpter of Tulare, daughter Linda (Mike) Rachwitz of Moreno Valley, and daughter Paulette Tiner (Cathy Stites) of Clovis; 10 grandchildren, Dana Hammontree (Buena Park), Corey Sumpter (Tulare), Scott Sumpter (Tulare), Thomas Murray (Rapid City, SD), Danette Novoa (Clovis), Jason Tiner (Tollhouse), Chris Sumpter (Las Vegas), Brian Sumpter (Tulare), Aaron Sumpter (Tulare) and Steven Sumpter (Tulare); 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
