Ed Benjamin

On January 11, 2023, Ed Benjamin, passed away peacefully at home, and went home to the be with our Lord. He is survived by his wife, Jessie, and his children, Danny and his wife Diane, Nancy and her husband Frank and their children, Lauren, Nick and Ashley, and Shirley, and her husband Bryan and their children, Andrew, Joel and Sam. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Calvin, Ellie and Theo. Ed is preceded in death by his brother Bob and his parents, “W.A.” and Lillian Benjamin.

Ed was a life-long resident of Los Angeles, California. He graduated Manual Arts High School and completed his studies in Electrical Engineering at USC. Ed started working at the family business, W.A. Benjamin Electric Company, formed by his father in 1911, while in school. Upon graduation from USC he worked for Northrup Aircraft in Hawthorne, which gave him the opportunity to draft the plans, after his assignments were completed, for the home that he ultimately built. About this time, he returned to work for the family business and became the President when his father became ill in the early 1960’s. He let the company until his retirement in 1999 and remains on the Board of Directors of the corporation.

Ed met his future wife, Jessie, at a church social at Florence Avenue Presbyterian Church, where they were ultimately married and have remained married for almost 69 years. They settled into a home that he built in the new community of Ladera Heights where they became members of Knox Presbyterian Church so that they could raise their family in the church community.

Ed was an avid photographer and train railfan, spanning the era of steam locomotives into the diesel age. He has an extensive model train collection that was his life-long hobby.

A memorial service will be held on January 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM, with reception following, at
