On Wednesday, October 13, 2021 Edward Martinez passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.
Ed was born on May 12, 1951 in Torrance to Elvira and Ysidro Martinez. He grew up in Lawndale and attended the local elementary and high school. Ed served with the United States Marine Corp (1970 - 1976) and was honorably discharged as a rifle expert. Ed worked alongside his father in construction before joining TRW in 1981 as a security officer and then as a structural craftsman for 36 years before retiring in December 2017.
While employed at TRW, Ed had the opportunity to join the HazMat team, which was as close to being a firefighter like his brother. He worked alongside many wonderful people who enjoyed his soft-spoken demeanor and his co-worker/buddy Kirk were quite the team.
One of the many highlights of Ed’s career was the opportunity to work overseas in the Falkland Islands for several weeks. He loved it and talked endlessly about his experience.
Ed’s other passion included target practice and skeet shooting. He was an avid collector of firearms and loved the opportunity of keeping his sharp shooter skills up-to-date. If he wasn’t at the shooting range then he was out on a fishing expedition with his son and brother to see who could catch the “Big One.” If you knew Ed, then you knew his number one passion in life was going to the gym daily. Neither rain nor shine could keep him away from pumping iron.
Ed spent his retirement years traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Ed leaves behind his wife Mary, daughter Cristina (Jason), son Eddie (Michelle), daughter Melissa, grandchildren Sabrina, Jason, Marissa, Sasha, Kaila and Kato, sister Gloria and brother Richard (Veronica) along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
