Francis “Frank” was a World War II Veteran, serving as a U.S Army Radio operator from 1945 to 1947. On his 100th birthday, members of the Color Guard as well as a retired U.S Army General presented Francis with a medal and American flag. The entire presentation was captured by the local Channel 13 News in celebration of Francis.
For the past twelve years, Francis has lived with his daughter, Frances Hern. He maintained his vibrancy by exercising daily with his care givers, which included walking the entire length of his daughter’s home four to five times a day.
As a final message to all who knew and loved him, Francis stated “Schnapps, wine and beer” with a “thumbs up” before closing his eyes.
He is survived by his son, Joseph Allen Hern, who resides in La Quinta, California, grandson Erik Bienhoff, who resides in Texas, two great granddaughters Lilly Bienhoff and Anya Bienhoff, granddaughter Danielle Hern Corbin and great grandsons Evan Corbin and Levi Corbin, who reside in Lynnwood, Washington.
May God bless him.
