Gilbert Joseph Gomez

Life long resident and a member of one of the original families of the Redondo Beach community peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his wife and family on Friday, January 18, 2008 at the age of 74. Gilbert will be forever and lovingly remembered by Joan, his wife of 57 years; loving and devoted father to Cathe Rodriguez of Redondo Beach, Virginia (Willie) Sanchez of Murrieta, Darlene Gomez and Gilbert Gomez Jr. both of Redondo Beach; a proud grandpa of twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Gilbert is survived by his brothers Raymond "Hozie" and Art Gomez of Redondo Beach, sisters Josephine Alba of Redondo Beach, Mary Louise Ruiz of Los Alamitos and Lupe Saucedo of Oceana; sisters-in-law Dolores Valencia and Della Anaya both of Redondo Beach and Rachel Serena of Buckley, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Rosalio and Carmen Gomez.

Gilbert's passion for racing was lived out racing his junior gas dragster at the legendary Lion's Drag Strip. Other interests included camping and fishing with his family and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 6PM with vigil service at 7PM and Funeral Mass on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 10AM all in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Hermosa Beach with reception immediately following services in the parish hall.

In leiu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church "Building Fund," in his memory.
