James Bernard Keating

James Bernard Keating born April 18, 1945 in Lawrence MA, passed away on Thursday September 15th at the age of 66. Jim, as he was commonly known, was raised in Redondo Beach, CA. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Aviation High School in 1962. He voluntarily served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1966. During his service he was an aircraft mechanic assigned to F104's and F105's at both George AFB in Victorville, CA, and Da Nang AFB in Vietnam. On July 10, 1967 he was hired by United Airlines in San Francisco where he put his military training to good use until retiring in 2002. Also in 1967, he married and relocated to Newark, CA. In 2010 he relocated to Antelope Acres, CA to be closer to family. Jim was dedicated to his profession, his family, and friends too numerous to count! He was an advocate for all he believed in, and an adversary of what he did not. Never shy or short on words, everyone always knew where he stood. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Alice Keating, and his brother Ken Keating. He is survived by his sisters Dorothy Young of Wichita, KS and Sharon Thoren of Las Vegas, NV; his son James Keating of Antelope Acres, CA; his daughter Mary Holland of Las Vegas, NV; and four grandchildren whom he adored, Jimmy, PJ, Andy & Kaitlyn. Services will be held at Rice Mortuary in Torrance, CA on Saturday September 24th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Halfway to Home, Inc., P.O. Box 512 Rosamond, CA 93560.
