Uncle Jim was truly a special person, especially for my brother and I. Ever since moving to America at the age of 8, his home with Tita Olive was the destination for any special occasions. Every Christmas, we would exchange gifts and enjoy each other’s company.  I will never forget our many conversations, from motorcycles, sports, WWE and even growing tomatoes. I’m glad I was given an opportunity to call him my uncle.

Judy and I are so sorry for your loss.  As a step-brother joining the Sass family as a teenager in the late 60's, Jim was always very welcoming to me.  His easy and gentle style and humor were on display even back then.  Judy and I have often told the story of how Jim overcame many obstacles early in his life to make a positive impact.  Even though we can't be present for the services, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with Olive and everyone affected by his passing.

Uncle Jim was funny, kind and the greatest source of love and laughter for my Auntie Olive. Every summer during my elementary school years, I would spend time with Auntie Olive, because she lived by herself in LA - my family and I wanted to keep her company as much as we could. Auntie Olive is a very happy person, but her happiness was indescribable when she met Uncle Jim. I remember her telling me that she met a man and he makes her laugh to no end, and he rides a motorcycle.  Uncle Jim is the male version of Auntie Olive - they are the same person and I truly believe they are each other’s soulmates. They met later in life but I know God meant for this to happen so that they could settle down in love for the rest of their lives. So, when Auntie Olive met Uncle Jim - she no longer had to make the 5 hour drive back and forth to pick me up and drop me off every summer, she no longer had to take me to Disneyland every year in the hot SoCal sun, and I no longer had to worry about her being alone - she had Uncle Jim. Their love and love story is a movie - not many people find their soulmate in life, but they did, and it was beautiful. 

I met uncle Jim when I was only in middle school just starting my teen years. Uncle Jim watched my sisters and I grow up - from being careless elementary school kids, to shoe collecting teenagers, our first boyfriends, and now as grown adults starting our own families.

To conclude, my family and I love Uncle Jim as much as we love Auntie Olive - and that’s a lot. My Auntie Olive treated myself and my sisters like her own kids, and Uncle Jim matched that. We will forever miss him. I know Auntie Olive will live life for him, but I know Uncle Jim has a chunk of her heart with him. We know your riding you motorcycle in heaven watching over all of us, rest easy Uncle Jim.

I will miss Jim’s husky voice and laughter.

Dear Olive,

My deepest sympathy on your loss. May wonderful and special memories of Jim remind you of his love be a comfort to you. Our Lord will provide refuge. Know that he is at peace and that he is still very close to you.  My thoughts and prayers are with you and in spirit.

Jim was a  very adorable person who always made everyone feel at ease.  He loved to give words of comfort to those who need them.  He loved to make people laugh even with his dark humor sometimes.  He loved to give help to anyone even those who had a car breakdown on the freeway.

He loved motorcycles and rode motorcyles all his life.  He loved the liberating spirit of it.

His friends and family will always fondly remember him as a guy with simple tastes, no qualms about anything -- just a straight-up smart, uncomplicated, funny, helpful guy.
