
John was a long time resident of the South Bay until retiring to the Pahrump Valley in Pahrump, Nevada, seven years ago. As a young man in New York he served with the Army National Guard. He worked in the retail food industry for over 45 years, originally with "A&P" in Brooklyn, New York and then for "Safeway" and "Vons", here in the South Bay.
He married his lifetime friend and love as a young adult in 1960. He moved his family to California in 1971 to offer a better life for his family and himself. He and his wife, Anne of 50 years, lived and thrived in the area, raising four children.
After raising his children he and Anne retired to the peace and quiet of the high desert in Nevada. They loved the open space their property allowed them, the spectacular views of the mountains as well as the opportunity to travel the country and the west in their trailer.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Sarah Glynn, his brother James, sister Mary and his son Thomas Patrick. He is survived by his brothers Patrick and Fred, his wife, Anne; children John and Karen Glynn, Brian and Nancyanne. Grandchildren Julie, John Thomas, Austin , Nathaniel, Betty, Cynthia, and Cecilia, Great Grandchildren Ava Rose, Andrew and Adrian. He was an Grandfather, Uncle and Great Uncle to all nieces, nephews and extended family members.
There will be a viewing at White & Day Mortuary in Manhattan Beach on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 4:00 pm -8:00 pm. The following day, Friday, November 19, 2010 at 10:00 am, there will be a funeral mass at St. Anthony's Church in El Segundo. No internment at this time
In lieu of flowers, John requested that donations be made to the "Make a Wish Foundation" in his memory.
