

Born and raised in Torrance, Julia graduated from Torrance High School in 1975 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in history from Loyola Marymount University in 1979. She dedicated 37 years of her career to public service as a Deputy Clerk for the California Court of Appeal in Los Angeles.
Julia was a member of Torrance First United Methodist Church, where she participated in the youth group and choir as a young woman, later giving back to the community by serving as a Sunday School teacher.
Julia had a lifelong love for the performing arts, music, film, and literature, passions she shared with those around her. She was also a devoted animal lover.
Above all, Julia was a proud and loving mother. She raised her two children in the South Bay and was their unwavering supporter, always encouraging them to pursue their passions and dreams. Her nurturing spirit and steadfast presence were the foundation of their lives.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Samantha Chlanda of Los Angeles; her son, Ryan Cody Chlanda of Torrance; her sisters, Patricia Champlin Castillon (Frank) of Murrieta, Melissa Malone of Culver City and Michele Pulliam; and her brother, John Chlanda (Teri) of Washington. She is also survived by her uncle, Milton “Pat” Wood of Torrance; her aunt, Dorothy “Dot” Peterson of Torrance; her nephew, Jordan Champlin of Murrieta; her stepmother, Jo Ann Weldon of Palmdale; and numerous cousins, including Angela, Diana, Sandra, Patti, Teri, and Katherine. She is also survived by her partner, Kinji Inomata.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty Champlin, Chauncey Champlin, and Ted Chlanda.
Julia will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and the deep love she had for her family.
Services will be held on September 27th at 3pm at Torrance First United Methodist Church.
