Kyle was born in Fullerton, CA and raised in El Segundo, CA. He attended the El Segundo schools except for 3 years of grammar school at Community Baptist School in Manhattan Beach, CA. He did very well there and at one point said he wanted to become a missionary.
After high school Kyle had various jobs in restaurants and retail. He worked for a time in Arcata, CA, which he really enjoyed because the people there were so friendly. One of his later jobs was at a supermarket until a co-worker improperly used a pallet jack that nearly injured Kyle. That was enough for him.
Kyle learned to skateboard as an adult and loved to skate down by the beach from El Segundo to Redondo Beach. He enjoyed playing video games and especially spending time with his older brother Justin. One of his favorite things was going to Disneyland with his mom and brother.
Kyle loved to read and was very knowledgeable about a lot of various subjects including history, politics, and animals. He loved animals and had an affinity for cats, especially the chubby ones. 😊 One of his favorite animals was Tulip the Beaver who is quite famous on YouTube. He wanted to visit Something Wild, a wildlife rehabilitation program in Mississippi one day and perhaps volunteer.
Kyle never met a stranger and would befriend many people while he was out in public. He could empathize with people in need, physically or emotionally, and would go out of his way to be of help to others.
In 2022 Kyle was a passenger in a car accident and his hip was shattered causing him chronic pain and limited physical mobility. He was waiting for insurance approval for a new hip. This was a difficult time for him, but he still often retained his funny, whimsical sense of humor. He never questioned God as to why this happened.
Kyle was raised in church and a believer in Jesus. He was baptized twice: once as a child and later one Easter Sunday as an adult. Kyle is now in Heaven with Jesus and his father and family that preceded him, and completely healed and whole again. He was much loved by his family and will be deeply missed until we are reunited in Heaven with him one day.
He is survived by his mother Deborah Rankin, brother Justin Rankin, aunt Linda Hoenigsberg, uncle Tom Hoenigsberg, aunt Mo Rankin, cousins Bruce Herrin, Alia Escalante, Gabriel Herrin, Sage Amthor, Colleen Rankin, Patrick Rankin, and many first cousins.
Kyle was preceded in death by his father Patrick James Rankin, his grandparents Marianne and Bruce Amthor, Robert D. and Margaret Rankin, and uncles Robert Rankin and Scott Rankin.
Romans 8:38-39:
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
