Luis Moreno
Luis (Luigi) Robert Moreno was born to Esaias (Chayo) and Rosaura (Rose) Moreno on November 7, 1949 and grew up in the beach cities of Hermosa and Redondo with sister Roberta and brother Richard. As a young boy he loved to dress up as a cowboy, play baseball, tease his sister, annoy the neighbors, and later on joined The Magoos car club.
At the height of the Vietnam War, he joined the U.S. Army, married his high school sweetheart Linda, and served his country first in Germany then in Vietnam. After returning to civilian life he joined his father as fire marshal at the Chevron Refinery in El Segundo and welcomed the birth of his son, Scott Matthew on December 27, 1971, spending the last 30 years of his life as a warehouse supervisor and business partner at All Express Cargo, a freight forwarding firm near LAX.
Luigi loved the sun, sand and surf, family reunions, watching Scott play soccer, listening to Bob Marley, betting at Hollywood Race Track, watching boxing and hanging out at local watering holes like Turk's Grass Hut where he met Diana on February 21, 1987. Although together twenty-six years they married just six years ago, finally merging their two families into one big, loving family.
Luis was as patriotic as they come and became a lifetime member of the American Legion, proudly serving as Commander of Hawthorne Post 314 for the past two years. He retired earlier this year, and loved spending time with son Scott, tending plants in his yard, traveling with Diana to Las Vegas and spoiling the grandkids.
July 17, 2013 he quietly left this world and was met at heaven's gate by his brother Richard, father Chayo, mother Rose, aunts, uncles, cousins, plus all the friends who have gone on before him….… leaving behind son Scott, sister Roberta, nieces Marlene and Jenna Collins, nephews Cameron Buchan, Corey Collins; Ricardo, Mika and Esaias (Little "E") Moreno; wife Diana, stepson Bob and wife Shannon; grandchildren Amanda, Noah and Timothy; stepson Ed and wife Merrie, grandsons Bryce and Charlie; sisters-in-law Linda and husband Harold, Wilma and husband Rick, and more cousins and friends than the stars above to carry on the good fight for him. He will be missed as deeply as he was loved.
Rest in peace. We will see you in paradise one day.
Luis had a passion for the American Legion and one of his favorite programs was Boys State, a program for eleventh grade boys to attend a week-long camp that instills pride in their community, state and nation while learning about our form of government.
