I am so very saddened to hear of the passing of my dear and much admired friend. He and I shared many great times together and I always looked up to him as a true American Hero. He was the best definition of what a true friend is. God bless his family and I hope they know how much he was loved and appreciated. I'll miss him terribly.      Joe Sutfin

I did not know Michael as well asthe other family members. We used to go from the High School across the street to Andy's store to get pop and candy. I graduated in 1947 a year before Mike was born. I joned the AF in 1948 and stayed 22 years. Our hearts go out to the family of Mike.

Mike was one of our classmates we were always proud of. I remember Mike as one of those rare individuals who always seemed to do the right thing.  Although it has been many years since I have seen or talked to Mike, he will be missed as a part of my life and memories  of growing up in Robinson. The news of Mikes death saddened me more than I can express.He was one of my best friends in high school. Mike was in my wedding in 1970. I had not seen Mike in 35 years, but he was never far from my thoughts. I know when I arrive at the Pearly Gates Mike will be guard duty. I will celebrate your  life.  Semper Fi. I am so sad to hear of Mike's death.  Mike was my first serious boyfriend and I have so many wonderful memories of him.  He was the first and only person to give me a class ring, my date for the Jr and Sr Proms, and an inspiration through all his academic and athletic achievements.  Although I have not seen or heard from him in many years, he will always have a permament place in my heart.  My sincere condolences to his family and friends

Mr. Michael Shepard was a regular patron of the Walteria Branch of Torrance Public Library. I served him from 2000 to 2003 and was delighted to make his acquaintance again when I returned to Walteria in 2006 after a tenure at another branch. He always had a warm smile and kind words to say, and seemed to be an avid and thoughtful reader of carefully chosen books. I shall miss him.  Phil Ross, Senior Librarian

Mike was a good friend and a great brother-in-law.  I fondly remember holiday gatherings at his parents and the great card games we had.  Mike was alway ready to wager against me when I was pulling for the Chicago Bears.  I'm very proud of his service to our country and he will be greatly missed.

I was born the year my Uncle Mike graduated from high school.  When I was little and we gathered at my grandmother and granddad's house for holidays I thought that Mike was so "neat" because he teased and played with us and was not really all that "old!"  I was always proud that my mom and dad told me that I had Mike's almond eyes.  As an adult I got to know him in stages, when our yearly Thanksgiving gatherings gave me time to talk with him.  Mike was so interesting to talk with!  He knew a lot about many things, but always respectful of others' ideas and opinions.  He had a great way of challenging a person to really think about things!  I wish now that there was more time and less distance between us.  I respected and loved him and will miss him.

My condolences to the family.  Mike was a great American, serving his country proudly in the Armed Services. I knew Mike from the Starboard Attitude, where I play there regularly with the Zola Moon Band. He was always a gentleman, friendly, and a very nice person to work with. He will be missed dearly.

Celebrate Mike's life with his family and friends on Thursday, February 15.  Meet in front of the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA by 11 a.m.  We will board a boat to scatter his ashes and then gather at Tony's to share memories of Mike.

I worked with Mike at the Starboard Attitude for 2 1/2 years.  He was a very sweet man.  We shared some laughs and he offered great advice.  I really looked up to him as a father figure.  I am going to miss him dearly.  My heart goes out to his family.

I heard from our sister, Michael, that you had a very special memorial today off the pier and even had your own posse of porpise to welcome & guide you on this stage of your journey. I'll always remember my baby brother who dressed in cowboy hats and cowboy clothes with his little holster...who grew up to be a fine,intelligent,kind, and giving man. Even in your own difficult times, you were always there for family & friends. I miss you and I love you always. Remember, you said you'd try to get in touch with me from the other side! Just announce yourself and no fair trying to scare me!
