Nadine Morgan (formerly Henderson) was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania on October 10, 1935 to Charles and Catherine Henderson. She graduated from East Allegheny High School and moved with her family to California in 1954. They settled in North Hollywood and Nadine started working in preschools. She met Robert Morgan, also from Pennsylvania, and they married in February 1955. She continued to work as a preschool teacher off and on through the 1970’s and raised her two sons Terrance and Michael in Studio City. Both of her sons became public school teachers.
Nadine was a fiercely loyal mother. She took great pride in her father’s work as a union organizer and was pro-labor her entire life. She was very supportive of her boys choices to pursue teaching careers, offering her advice (whether sought out or not), and doing all she could to support their classrooms. She often provided arts and crafts ideas for Terry’s classroom. She was an avid user of Facebook and served as a surrogate grandmother to dozens of her kids’ nieces and nephews every day. She was the first to “like” every post about her son Michael’s “Nerdy” academic teams and could be seen wearing her team T-shirts every day at Driftwood Healthcare Center where she lived for most of 2017. She was part of a group of Driftwood residents that helped prepare and serve meals for the homeless at Saint James Parish in Redondo Beach. In the last two months of her life, she also served as the President of the Resident’s Council.
Even though her health was declining for the last 15 years, she never quit living her life. She took online English courses from Khan Academy because she wanted to make sure her online posts had proper grammar as an example to all her “grandkids” and even took a basic physics class.
In 1996 she and Robert moved to Santa Monica, and then to Redondo Beach in 2006. She is survived by sons Terrance and Michael, and daughters-in-law Elvia and Maria. Her husband of 62 years, Robert, passed away on July 7, 2017. She had seven brothers and sisters who all preceded her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please consider making a donation to Trinity Hospice Care or Felines and Friends Pet Rescue.
