My Mother


We are  here today to share in the memory of my mother, , so that together we may acknowledge and share the gift of joy and laughter that her life brought to all of us. 

My mother was a beautiful , kind and generous loving soul who always put everyone before herself. 
She raised four children on her own in fact 
she raised most of the children in the neighborhood,
while working day and night to make ends meet.
She volunteered at meals on wheels delivering food to people who couldn’t get it for them self.
She was always helping somebody

A typical day for her during the summer when schools out was she would get up early take us to the beach drop us off, go pick up my aunt and take her to work and then she would go to work.

When she would get off work she would go back and pick up my aunt and take her home and come by the beach pick us up and make sure we had food on the table and try to get a little sleep before the next day started or a night shift.

I’m sure there must’ve been days when she would probably say to herself maybe I’ll just leave the kids at the beach today.
but she never did.

She did all of  this in great classic old used cars she would buy including one that I loved the most which was a Rambler American.
I will never forget that car. When she would take us to our grandmothers to drop us off during the summer we would head down 190th towards that big hill that goes up to Prospect. She would hit the gas early to get a run at it.
I would always think in my mind are we gonna make it up that hill this time. We always did.
These were great times.

She would always sacrifice her time to be sure we always had fun and always got to where we needed to be. 
She was a great role model who taught us right from wrong and how to respect others.


She was the kind of mother that when you come into the house she would say let me make you a sandwich and you would say no i’m not hungry. 
Well then she would say well how about half a sandwich you would say no, then she would say how about a banana, you would say no and then she would say well then just have a glass of water, OK.

she always made sure there was enough food for everybody.

My mother used to collect lot of cool trinkets she had an extensive collection of pencil sharpeners.
She had extensive collection of matchbooks , every kind of little donkey that you could think of, that’s right I said donkey she loved donkeys.
She also had two cabinets filled with old vintage 70s toys beanie babies and things like that.
Every time one of the neighbors will have a baby  they would get to be a couple years old she would invite them in to play with the toys and let them take home which ever one they liked.

Unlike NOBODY else in this room my mother loved the post office.
She saved post office memorabilia  in fact our entire Christmas tree was covered with  post office ornaments and she has every sheet of stamps that came out during her years at the post office. She was very proud of her work at the post office and what the post office stood for.

I could talk all day about how loving and caring my mother was but I’ll close in saying just a few more things.  

I bet there’s a lot of you in this room that are saying how blessed you are to have my mother as your friend.
But what my mother would say is how blessed she was to have you all as her friend.

She was a mother to the very end. 

In Fact the last time I saw her I said I love you mom, she said I love you too.
And as I was walking out the door , the very last thing she said to me was do you have enough food in the house.

George Plante - Brother-in-Law - Goodnight Sweet Lady, I will miss sharing our birthday of April 18 with you.  I will always say a prayer for you on our birthday.  You are one of the sweetest people I ever met.

What a wonderful lady is Netta. There are too few powerful words to describe her but certainly one would start with sweet, loving, funny, caring, strong, and quite the card player ;)!   What an indelible mark she made on so many lives and will be incredibly missed.  Thank you for being BFF to my mom all these years.

It is difficult to find sufficient words to fully express the beautiful persona of Netta. I cherish so many wonderful memories shared and the privilege of being a friend.
  Netta is and will forever be sorely missed by all who knew her.

It can be said that a person that touched the lives of others lived a good life- Netta lived a good life.  Her examples of kindness, compassion, and strength were quiet lessons that stayed with those that were blessed to know her.  She literally saved my life.  She not only showed me what being a good person was, but passed on a lifelong love of crossword puzzles.  Her laughter was infectious and her wit could be wicked, but never mean or cruel.  She was surrounded with loving  family and friends.  She lived a good life indeed.
