
Long-time resident of the South Bay, Phyllis Collins Clotworthy, died peacefully, at home, with all of her family surrounding her, on May 10th following a long, brave, battle with lung disease. Phyllis was born in New Haven, Connecticut, graduated phi beta kappa from the University of Alabama with a degree in Sociology, and earned a masters degree in Psychology from Loyola University after raising her family.
Besides raising her four children, Phyllis managed to have successful careers as a social worker, a real estate agent, a stockbroker, and a marriage and family counselor. For many years, Phyllis was an active member of the congregation of the Church of Religious Science in Redondo Beach. Most recently, however, she and her husband, Lee, have been members of the Unity Church of South Bay. Phyllis was a member of the Church’s Board of Directors and an integral part of its Building Fund Campaign. Phyllis was also a dedicated volunteer, donating countless hours as treasurer of the local chapter of the Flying Samaritans, and counseling for the Job Center, His House, Harbor View House and Gratitude Retreat Foundation. She also sang with Los Concioneros Master Chorale.
Phyllis’ presence stays with each of her family members, husband, Lee, daughters Peggi Collins (Steve Cocks), Martha Auckland (Jim), David (Patti) Collins, Betsy Collins (Patrick McNulty), Rick (Ginger) Clotworthy, and Nancy (Bob) Bishop, grandchildren Stacy Auckland, Joshua Auckland, Shannon Stansbury, Evan Clotworthy, Lindsey Clotworthy, Devin McNulty, Carolyn Bishop, Brennan McNulty, and Christopher Bishop, and great-grandson, Ryder James Auckland.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Church of Religious Science, 907 Knob Hill, Redondo Beach.
En lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made in Phyllis’ memory to the Unity Church of the South Bay, building fund.
