Pamela Rector and family:      Today, I received the news of the passing of Dick Rector.        On behalf of the USS Providence Association, and myself, I would like to extend our condolences to you and your family.  We all looked forward each year to seeing Dick at the reunion.  He always enjoyed seeing his old shipmates.  His commitment as President/Executive Officer of Providence Association and the Chairmanship for the San Diego 2007 Reunion was highly appreciated by all.        Your dad will now be listed in the Providence Memorial.  He will be in the company of good men who served our country. Dick will be remembered as a good guy who finished tops in his class.      He has transferred to the Fleet of the Supreme Commander and is with his beloved Edy.      May GOD bless his daughter and extended family during their time of mourning

Dick was the first person I spoke with when I learned of the USS Providence Assoc. and the first San Diego Reunion back in Oct '96. His spirit of friendship and brotherhood was clearly visible and will leave it's mark on our Assoc. always. Dick Rector was a man I 1st met at the Buffalo reunion.  A man of unlimited energy; full of fun and caring.  I'll miss seeing him in San Diego but I know he'll be with us - all we'll have to do is be aware of him.  He wouldn't miss the upcoming reunion for anything!! I extend my condolences to his family. I am stunned by the death of Dick Rector and extend heartfelt condolences to his wife and family. Dick exemplified what we mean when we call a man SHIPMATE: loyal, positive, ready to help, generous, enthusiastic, kind, true to his word.  A man you would want beside you in battle. Dick was a participant and a leader in every aspect of his life. He loved the PROVIDENCE. We loved him back.  Godspeed, old friend.  We will keep you and your family in our prayers.

I first met Dick at the Buffalo Reunion, although from dates we were aboard the Providence at the same time.  He was helpful in the association awarding the 2005 reunion to the Phoenix area. During the following year I believe we would not have been able to continue the reunions without his financial assistance and loans to the assoc treasury and the funds to deposit for allowing the reunion plans to continue.      Learning of the decking saved during the Providence salvage, he quickly made available "pieces of the providence" for the 2005 reunion.      Over the years his many other servics to our shipmates and our Navy group are well known. Semper Fi Richard,   Thanke for the good advice you gave me my first day aboard the USS Providence brig duty.  From your top bunk you said "don't give him nothing kid or you will be in their with him." Also thanks for the box of soda crackers!! They sure came in handy for a new jar head's first time at sea.    Your sailing the sea's of eternity on your ship you loved so much with your beloved Edie and all your ship mates who passed before you.   Bon Voyage. Will see you in the future in a better place. I am so very sorry to hear that Dick has passed. I will miss him very much. I first met Dick in the summer of 2005 when he hired me to work for him at his home office. He treated me with respect and kindness, I never met a more caring and giving person. He came to know my husband Pete and children Ramon, Serena, Ruben & Seleah and we all will miss him terribly. Many evenings we would talk about his life and the love he had for his wife Edy, his daughter Pam and granddaughter Gracie. Just by hearing how he would talk about each one of them you knew he LOVED them tremendously! As Mr. Rector passed over... GOD said to him WELCOME HOME RICHARD, WELCOME HOME.. He is truly home now at peace with the love of his life.      GOD BLESS THE RECTOR FAMILY! Amen.

I worked with Dick at the Maintenance Office until he retired.  Was sorry to hear of his passing.

I met Dick in 1962 while working   with the LAUSD.      We met often at the LAUSD Classified Retirement Assoc. meetings.      Dick was a special person.      God Bless the family in their loss.

Dick Rector was my "Uncle Dick" who was the not-well-known, long-distance uncle until I moved to CA in 1976 and he and Edy became my substitute parent-figures.  I'd heard so many stories from my mother and other uncles in NY about the young, wild, and crazy Dick that I was surprised to find such a loving and caring man!  He'd grown up!  Dick always seemed to have so many projects and plans underway that I wish I had his energy.  I also wish I had his social skills!  It's so true that he never met a stranger - Dick could talk to anyone about anything.  I was so proud of his most recent accomplishment and am going to miss him.

I have known Dick Rector for a few years now through Byron Ritchey his long time friend from Pen Yan.      Great man with lots of energy!!!   Lived life to its fullest.       When I get to that age I hope I can do all the things he did, especially travel. God Bless.   We will miss you friend.      J Duarte

My 90 year old mother and I have been renting Mr. Rector's home located next door.  When I first met Mr. Rector, I told him how much my mother loved the American flag.  The day I pulled into the driveway with my mother to move into our new home-Mr. Rector had a flag flying on the front porch.  My mom was thrilled.  He was a very kind and thoughtful man and treated my mother very well.

Mr. Rector was my first landlord way back in 1989. I remember the first time meeting him and feeling like I've known him forever. We kept in touch through him placing ads with me for real estate. He was a dear person with a heart of gold. I will miss him.       My heart goes out to his family, may God give you comfort at this time.
