
He attended Los Angeles schools: George Washington High School, El Camino College, and the University of Southern California, where, as #58, he played football on a Rose Bowl Championship Team 1949-1951. He could throw a football 77 yards, and he held the record for the javelin throwing distance of 202 feet.
In recent years, he was inducted into the El Camino College Hall of Fame, and received the All Pacific Coast 1st Team Award for USC football.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Jean Corbin Hooks. He is also survived by his daughter, Virginia Hooks Wood ( William Brian Wood ), son, John Hooks (Pam Foley Hooks), daughter, Kathleen Hooks Curtis Gloyd (Randy Gloyd), and daughter, Carolyn Hooks Landers (William Landers). Bob was “Pops” to 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grand children.
He was active in several Methodist churches, then became a member of Rolling Hills Covenant Church in 1980.
He joined his father and grandfather in their real estate business and then added a mortgage business that he carried on for 70 years. He was known by many to be quietly generous in his business dealings throughout his career.
In addition to football, he enjoyed boating and water skiing and passed that affinity on to three generations of family.
He squeezed all there was out of 92 years and his family will earnestly try to live up to his legacy of faith in Christ, strength of character, and love for one another.
