
Pinto, Ross Emerson, a 66 year resident of the South Bay, passed away on Good Friday, April 6, 2007 in Redondo Beach. Born in Detroit, MI, Ross was 83 when he died. Ross had served as a captain in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot and navigator. Ross was a member of St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church and was the choir director for several years.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty (60+) years, Josephine A. Pinto of Redondo Beach, and two sons, Richard (spouse, Mary) Pinto of San Juan Capistrano, CA, and Joseph C. Pinto of Dana Point, CA, 6 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester B. Pinto, Sr. and Doris (Akroyd). He was lovingly raised by Josephine (Stile) Pinto. His brothers and sisters included Geraldine Martine, Prue Spelta, Tom, Joseph and Chester B. Pinto, Jr. Ross cherished his Sicilian and English heritage and was fluent in Italian.
Ross had an industrial engineering degree from the University of Southern California (where he played the trombone in the USC Marching Band), and was the president of several corporations over a 50 year span in the aerospace and lawnmower industries.
Ross enjoyed music, good friends, Italian cuisine, jokes, traveling and absolutely loved playing golf with his "golfing buddies" and sons. He cherished his wife, children and grandchildren, and was always there for support and advocating the importance of higher education and hard work. He was and is the role model for all he touched.
A gathering of family & friends will be held at McCormick Mortuary in Redondo Beach on Friday April 13, 2007 from 4 to 8pm. The service and mass will be held at the Holy Redeemer Mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City on Saturday April 14 at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wellness Community - South Bay Cities, 109 Torrance Blvd., Redondo Beach, CA 90277.
