
YATES, RUTH E., passed away on Friday, April 27, 2001, in an area hospital. Ruth was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 27, 1909, and lived most of her life in Panorama City in the San Fernando Valley. Her residency in the South Bay began some eleven years ago when, owing to a lingering illness, she came here to be cared for by her daughter. Her forty-year career as an educator began after graduating from Penn State University as an English major. Although Ruth taught English at the high school level, she always spoke with fondness of her years at Toluca Lake Elementary School. She was a member of the California Teachers Association (CTA) and was never far from her roots in the Baptist Church. Ruth leaves a legacy to the community at large and the teaching profession, her daughter, Jane Readeur-Fisher, a teacher at Mira Costa High School. Also left to mourn her passing are other beloved family members: her son-in-law, Gilbert Fisher...Jane and Gilbert reside in Torrance, CA. , a granddaughter, Nancy Kwon, and grandson, Dean Kwon, and a step-granddaughter, Susan Kwon and Susan's three children. In this listing of those who love, respect and will miss Ruth, must be noted the host of young lives given a start in life under her tuteleage. Visitation hours will be from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at RICE MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5310 Torrance Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503. Services will be Thursday, May 3, 2001, at 4:30 PM at the same chapel location. Interment services will be held at the graveside on Friday, May 4, 2001 at 12 Noon at Eternal Valley Memorial Park, 23287 North Sierra Highway, Newhall, CA 91321.
