Sanjuana Gutierrez

Sanjuana Gutiérrez de Romo nació el 1 de septiembre de 1962 en San Juan de los Lagos Jalisco, México. Sus padres Arnulfo Gutiérrez (finado) y Socorro Montaño, fue la 5ta de 7 hijos, sobreviven Lola, Leticia, Arturo, José Luis, Carmelita y Martha Elena.

Fue una mujer con muchos valores religiosos aprendidos de sus padres, desde muy pequeña perteneció al grupo de la Adoración Nocturna en la parroquia de la Preciosa Sangre de Cristo donde pasaba un jueves al mes toda la noche en adoración al santísimo, decía que ahí encontraba fuerza y paz y así continuar en su lucha diaria.

Siempre tuvo el gusto de involucrarse en todas las actividades de la iglesia, tales como asistir a el grupo juvenil, luego entrar a la escuela de catequistas de las Siervas de Jesús Crucificado donde se estuvo estudiando por 9 meses, para entonces dedicarse con más ahínco en la catequesis y así prepara a niños a recibir los sacramentos de la primera comunión y confirmación, esto en su natal ciudad.

El 14 de mayo de 1994 contrajo matrimonio con Salvador Romo con quien procreó a sus 4 hijos: Froilán, Saúl, Joselyn y Giovanny. Sanjuana dedicó todo su tiempo y amor a sus hijos y esposo, y nunca desamparando a su familia en San Juan con quienes mantenía una comunicación muy estrecha, trataba de llamarles por lo menos 1 vez a la semana.

Ella siempre trató de infundirles a sus hijos y personas que la rodeaban los valores fundamentales de la religión, los cuales una de las primeras cosas que hizo al llegar a los Ángeles fue buscar una iglesia católica donde pudiera seguir practicando su fe y amor a Jesús Eucaristía, así como a “Mamita María” como ella le llamaba cariñosamente a la Santísima Virgen. Al cabo de un tiempo y mediante una invitación se incorpora al grupo de catequistas en la iglesia de la Natividad, donde estuvo activa en la preparación en español a niños para recibir el sacramento de la comunión hasta unos meses antes de su deceso.

Otro aspecto a destacar en ella, fue su devoción a la Divina Misericordia que la llevó a siempre estar atenta en las necesidades de los demás, le gustaba visitar enfermos o rezar novenas por ellos y los familiares que los cuidaban, así como pedir a Dios por los fieles difuntos.

A Sanjuana le encantaba la época navideña, todos los años se reunía con sus vecinas para preparar y organizar las tradicionales posadas con el rezo del santo rosario, además de las piñatas, música y comida típica de la época decembrina, todo esto la motivaba cada día a no perder sus raíces y costumbres de su país México y ciudad San Juan de los Lagos, al cual ya no tuvo la oportunidad de regresar como era su deseo.

Uno de sus pasatiempos favoritos era coser a máquina y diseñar su propia ropa al grado que ella hizo desde el diseño y costura de su vestido de novia; a sus hijos en algunas ocasiones les hizo los disfraces de Halloween, así como los de pastorcitos en las posadas.

Otras cosas que disfrutaba eran la música y cantar, además, de cocinar deliciosos platillos y antojitos mexicanos para su familia y amigos.

Sanjuana, nos ha dejado un gran legado, de haber sido una mujer fuerte y valiente ante las adversidades que la vida le puso, y a pesar de eso siempre se mostró alegre, sonriente y poniendo sus dones al servicio de los demás, la recordaremos con mucho cariño y agradecimiento.

“EL CANCER VENCIÓ SU CUERPO, PERO NUNCA VECIO SU FE, QUE LA HIZO MÁS FUERTE”

La frase que ella siempre repetía era “Jesus en ti confio”.

Hoy día, celebramos su vida y rogamos a Dios que en su infinita misericordia la tenga en su presencia por siempre. Descanse en Paz Sanjuana.

Sanjuana Gutierrez-Romo... Rest in Peace

September 1, 1962 -- September 21, 2017

Sanjuana was born in San Juan de Los Lagos, Jalisco (Mexico)

Her parents are Arnulfo Gutierrez (R.I.P.) and Socorro Montano, and her siblings, Dolores (Lola), Leticia, Arturo, Jose Luis, Carmen Teresa (Carmelita) and Martha Elena.

Sanjuana married Salvador Romo on May 14, 1994. One of their greatest joys was having 4 children: Froylan, Saul, Jocelyn and Giovanni.

With pleasure, she dedicated her life to them one hundred percent as housewife and mother, with all her love and time.

She taught her family all the good values she learned from her parents. And most important, she taught them her Catholic faith, and her great love for Jesus in the Eucharist.

Sanjuana was a member of an all night Adoration group: “Adoracion Nocturna de Mujeres" in her hometown in Mexico at her parish, La Preciosa Sangre de Cristo (Precious Blood of Christ). Once a month, Sanjuana enjoyed spending all night in adoration, praying and singing.

At a young age, she became very involved in various activities of the Church, including youth groups in her parish. As an adult, she continued her studies and finished high school, and later trained and became a Certified Catechist to teach religion in a Catholic parish school.

Sanjuana taught First Communion at her parish in Mexico for many years, the same parish that she received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, First Communion and Marriage.

The first thing Sanjuana did when she moved to the United States in Torrance CA, was to look for a Catholic Church near her new home, a parish to help in her new life as a wife and mother. She found Nativity Catholic Church in Torrance. There, she found a parish that was "a home away from home," a place where she could easily worship Jesus in the Eucharist, a place where her love for our blessed Mother grew. With all her love, Sanjuana fondly called her, “Mamita Maria.”

After many years of taking all her kids to Sunday School, one day she got the invitation of helping with First Communion classes in Spanish at Nativity. She was so happy to put all her talents and love together to teach the little ones about Jesus and our Faith. She taught for many years at Nativity, until just a few months before her death.

Sanjuana's love for Jesus in the Eucharist, and her special devotion to His Divine Mercy, transformed her into an Agent for God. She helped others by visiting the sick or praying Novenas to help family members, neighbors, or friends that passed away.

Christmas was one of her favorite Seasons! During the 9 days before Christmas, she joined friends and neighbors at her apartment complex celebrating traditional “posada navidenas” saying the rosary and singing traditional Mexican songs and eating delicious Mexican dishes in preparation for the great feast of Christmas. She loved sharing the Faith and Mexican religious customs with new generations.

Sanjuana loved sewing matching dresses for herself and her kids, especially her kids Halloween costumes. She also enjoyed music and singing. Most of all, she loved cooking delicious dishes for her family and friends.

Sanjuana's enthusiastic spirit always left an indelible, unforgettable mark on all who met her. She was truly a very special gift from God for her husband, "Salva," and for their children, family and friends. Sanjuana will be remembered by all who met her as a very happy woman, always smiling, always giving her time and talents to the service of others.

She finished the race with great faith, strength and courage.

Cancer never defeated her, it only MADE HER STRONGER. Cancer may have taken her human body, but never her spirit or her faith.

Sanjuana's favorite phrase was: "Jesus, I trust in you!" With God’s infinite mercy, may He hold her in His presence, now, and forever.
