
Steven R. Mitchell, a long time resident of Manhattan Beach, passed away February 7th, 2007 at St. John's Hospital. He had been battling cancer for several years and died surrounded by his loving family. Steven was 54.
Steve was born on March 15, 1952 in Van Nuys, CA. After earning degrees in physics and mathematics at Cal Poly Pomona, he furthered his education with a MBA degree from Pepperdine University and a Master of Taxation from the University of Southern California. Steve was a member of the Tax Court Bar. Steven began his professional career at Texas Instruments before establishing a tax and financial practice in Manhattan Beach. Over the 25 years he served his clients, many became steadfast friends; some even became Trojan football fans. Steve loved his work and served his clients well. His kindness and generosity were his special qualities as well as love of his dogs and cats.
Steve was bigger than life and was always known for his fun loving ways. He loved to play pranks and tell jokes even send them via email. He adored his wife Beverly and was a loving father for his son, Mitch. USC Football was in his blood and he never missed a home game in 25 years with the exception of one game due to a hospital stay last October. He enjoyed his Ferrari's and never wanted to leave Manhattan Beach. Steve is survived by his wife Beverly, his son Mitch, his mother Joyce Porter and siblings: April Gibbons, Gary Mitchell, Sue Hoag, Linda Logan, Janet Wily, Melody Pacheco, step sister Robin Grossman and step brother Daniel Wahl.
A Memorial service will be held Friday February 23, 2007 at 10AM at American Martyrs Church, Manhattan Beach.
In lieu of flowers, you may make contributions to the USC Athletic Scholarship Fund in Steven's name c/o Ron Orr at USC Heritage Hall.
