
Sumer Nicole Alvarez, 20, died in an accident on July 30, 2005 in Jaipur, India. Sumer was deeply loved. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Sandra and John Murphy, and sister Kara, age 6; her father and step-mother Dave and Julie Alvarez, sister Holly, age 5, and brother Nicholas, age 3; grandparents, Manny and Rachel Alvarez and Victor Martinez and Cherry Martinez; step-grandparents Maryanne Murphy and Dr. John Murphy and Jack and Hilda Walker and a large extended family of relatives and close friends. Sumer graduated from Bishop Montgomery High School and was was scheduled to begin her junior year at Georgetown University in Wash. D.C. She volunteered her time in many organizations including tutoring adult students at Catholic Charities, and mentoring children at the Georgetown University Theater Program. She was in India educating rural children. Sumer's talents were bountiful. A gifted student and athlete, she enjoyed writing, music, theater and painting, but her passion was photography. An evening Vigil will be held at Rice Mortuary on Sunday, August 7, 2005 at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach on Monday, August 8, 2005 at 10:00 A.M.
