Susan passed away peacefully in her home on July 2, 2009 after a 19 year battle with breast cancer. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. Born on May 11, 1955 in San Francisco, California, to Louis and Joan Stark, she moved to Torrance in 1964 where she spent the remainder of her life. She attended St. James School, Bishop Montgomery High School and Mount St. Mary's College, earning a degree in nursing. Sue worked as a Registered Nurse at Daniel Freeman Memorial Hospital for 25 years and then returned to Mount St. Mary's College to serve as an Associate Professor of Nursing and later, as Chair of the Nursing Department. She retired from Mount St. Mary's College in January of 2009. Although much of her life was dedicated to her career and to helping others, her focus and passion was the love of her life, her husband and best friend, Gary Meyer and her 4 children. She was proud to see her triplets, Kathryn, Jennifer, and Jonathon begin their established careers after graduating from college and her youngest son, Andrew graduate from high school and plan to attend college in the fall. Sue was an active member of the St. Lawrence Martyr and Bishop Montgomery communities as both a volunteer and parent. She is preceded in death by her parents and survived by her husband of 30 years, her four children, five siblings, Mike (Tracy), Rick (Sharon), Teri (George), Tim (Robyn) and Tom (Tammy), many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Above all else, Susan was a woman who stayed devoted to her Catholic faith and took every opportunity to praise, serve and thank God. A vigil service will take place on Friday, July 10 at 7:00 p.m. and the funeral mass will be on Saturday, July 11 at 10 a.m. Both liturgies will take place at St. Lawrence Martyr Church in Redondo Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations for scholarship opportunities can be made to Bishop Montgomery High School (Attn: Susan Meyer Scholarship Fund; 5430 Torrance Blvd, Torrance, CA 90503) or Mount St. Mary's College (Attn: Institutional Advancement Scholarship Fund for Susan Stark Meyer; 10 Chester Place, Los Angeles, CA 90007).
